I am so excited. We just got baby chicks. I have wanted to get chickens for almost 6 years. We live in the city in Ohio and planned on moving to Arizona. After the kids graduated school we finally did it. We bought a place with 40 acres. It's been almost 1 1/2 years since we moved. I have slowly been building my supply for the big day of getting chickens! I have been doing research since living in Ohio from toys to treats and everything I can think of in between. I have driven my husband crazy with chicken this and chicken that. I have even had dreams about them. Pretty bad for a city girl all my life!
My husband has endured my ramblings about what new tidbit I learned or what chicken breed I want now. Of course during this time there was a lot of eye rolling and out rite ignoring me. That was ok, it didn't stop me from talking about my beloved chickens that I didn't even own yet!
So we were at tractor supply to purchase dog food. I always have to look at the chicks when we go. Of course there was more eye rolling and sighing.. After the years of this dance my husband and I repeat, time and time again. The enviable happened. We bought chickens! They had one bin with bantam chicks on clearance for 25 cents. Now I never thought about having bantams, but was not opposed it it either. So we walked out with a bakers dozen of fluffy excitement.
My dog was not pleased, that with the excitement of chicks and getting the few things I didn't have we totally forgot her food. She was not amused in the least. She is an American bulldog mix that is almost 165 pounds. I could see it in her eyes..... You went there for one thing!
Now I have to post pictures in what breed to figure out what I have and how old they might be.
Thank you for taking the time. I am so glad there is a site to help new parents.
