Hello.

I am new to backyard chicken farming. I have recently acquired 4 HSA Brown Hens and 2 White Leghorns. They are approximately all about 2 weeks old or less (acquired from a local Rural King). All the ladies seem to be happy and thriving aside from a bit of expected pasty butt. They currently live in my garage while I'm building theirs chicken coop/run out back. I am open to any and all advice and suggestions. We all live in the near Indianapolis suburbs. In addition to my current flock, my girlfriend and I would love to add a couple White Silkies to our flock.
Again, I look forward to getting to know you all as a community. Feel free to message me, and if anyone knows where I can find a couple White Silkies, I'm all ears!
Have a wonderful day!

Welcome & Congratulations!

Have you checked out the Learning Centre? Lots of good tips there: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Besides the Buy, Sell, Trade Forum Yorkshrie Coop has mentioned, BYC also has a Silkie Thread you might want to check out: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/297632/silkie-thread

The folks on your local thread may also be able to help you out or even just somewhere to check in and talk chicken with people in your area: http://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share more pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

Hi and welcome to BYC - you have some great advice and links already so I'll just say hello!

All the best

I would also suggest the "Silkie thread," to learn all about the breed. They aren't the most robust birds, and they tend to be picked on and bullied by other breeds because(like Polish) they look much different than regular chickens.

IF they grow up with different breeds as chicks, they are usually accepted.
