NEW DUCK MOM-QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS.

Just so you know and are prepared for this?...;)....Sometimes Ducks and Chickens can not live together...;)...

Ducks grow really fast and make a mess with water which causes coccid to thrive and it can kill Chicks..:(....

I feed all my Chicks medicated feed and my Ducklings Duck starter...Ducks cant eat medicated feed..;).......

Sorry, two pens are needed..:)

Cheers!

Did you know that ducks *can* have medicated chick starter? The no medicated feed for ducks is an old wives tale that people keep telling.

I had 2 mallard ducklings with 6 buff orpington bantams and 3 porcelain d'uccles and man those ducks grew so fast and ended up crushing 3 of my BO in one day so I immediately separated them. Plus... I noticed the mallards that were raised with the chicks are a lot more skittish to us than our runners that were raised by themselves lol

really!
Everywhere I have read said they can get along, and I suppose if they don't I'll have to sell them on craigslist or something...Why would'nt they get along!?!

I've raised my duck and chickens together. They all ate the same food. When the ducks could handle a little mashed peas, they started getting that and then when I trained them to follow, they all liked peas.

Peas has niacin that the duck needs. My duck that I kept, is bonded to one chicken. They hang out together like old school chums.

Everything you read is romantic about Ducks and Chickens getting along..It can happen but most times it does not..;)...

Drakes hav, e a Penis and will breed Chickens..:(...Roosters basically rub bell buttons with Hen and no big deal..;).....A Drake can kill a Chicken Hen...Also if they don't like each other the two species will fight...;)...:(....

Sorry....That's the truth about Ducks and Chickens coexisting ..;)
Interesting, my 7 chickens and 2 ducks get a long just fine. The roosters even watch out for the ducks. Big happy family. Once my rooster thought I was hurting one of the ducks (she's very dramatic) and he came over and gave me a big peck, he was very worried about her. He was basically saying, hey don' t hurt her.
