My Dad was the most wonderful man you would ever want to meet.

He was kind, generous, fiercely protective, smart, patient, handsome (extremely handsome,) strong, a shameless flirt, capable, well liked by most, disliked by few, opinionated, funny, affectionate, thrifty, and wise. He loved kids, all kids, really loved them, and all kids loved him, immediately. He loved animals, and people, as long as they didn't cross him. He was particular about his yard and made every house we lived in a showplace with his landscaping. He grew the best tomatoes of anyone I have ever known. He had a beautiful singing voice and could whistle like a bird. He was tenderhearted but tough. He was a good man.

He was born into a sharecropper family in a house with only a dirt floor, and attained considerable wealth through hard work and smart investments. He served our country with the Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. He retired from the paper mill after 47 years, and long after it shut down.

He left four grown children and many grands and great grands to miss him. He was married to only one woman (my Mom) for 64 years and although a couple of women tried to land him after she died, he said he would never marry again. He said it would feel like he was cheating on Mom. He took care of us when we were sick, and when we needed help of any kind, he was there to offer all the help he could. He was one of a kind and I was blessed to have him as my father.

He died quietly, surrounded by the family he loved, and who loved him, dearly. We will miss him, but know that he and the love of his life are together again.

My old friend.

My old, and dear friend.

I set here and I wonder what words to post.

When all the words I know, there is not even one this night,
worthy

Thoughts and memories.

We mourn the passing of someone we love.
We miss them so much.

That we forget to see the truth, that for whatever legenth of
time, they were in our life.

Tonight, reflect not on your loss.

But glory, in the gift that of all the fathers in the world, this one
was yours.

What a fine gift that was.

Oh my friend...

Darrell
