Hello, I was hoping to get some advice about my poor pullets pasty butt. I just bought some chicks from the store and I kept smelling something very foul on the car ride home. When I got home we opened the box and I realized one of the chicks had dried poop the size of a ping pong ball attached to her bottom. Literally that big. It was horrible. We cleaned it with warm water and got it off. Then she pooped A LOT and it was very, very runny and it had a very distinct smell. Another one had pasty butt too, but not near this bad. I am just worried about her. I feel like she may not have had much time left. After we cleaned it all and she began the excessive pooping, she had a hard time with balance and kept falling over. I am monitoring her closely for now. Is this normal (a ping pong ball size)? Should I worry about her well doing, or did we help her in time? Everything I look up about it doesn't say that it is that big of a mound, so this must have gotten out of hand. Thanks for any help and advice! I've never had this happen before. I'm glad the store clerk grabbed her for us to bring home, otherwise it may not have been noticed, and she may not be alive!

Good news, she is still alive this morning! I was so worried she wasn't going to make it overnight. There is more dried poop on the vent now, though. It is on two of them. It's just a little bit compared to the ping pong ball size that she was dragging last night. I've read several things to consider trying: Apple Cider Vinegar? Pulling up a clump of weeds and take the part with the dirt and give it to them? Vaseline around the vent?

Thanks everyone for your help. I'm just worried about my girls. I'm a little disappointed that Tractor Supply didn't catch this and let it get SO bad. I understand that it happens, but she was in such bad shape we really worried she wouldn't make it.

I know the feeling, never had a pasty butt chick before until this years chicks. I have a little lady and for two month pasty butt. Just keep it clean and don't let her get to hot. Tail feathers take longer to come in because of it, so don't worry.

My little lady is three months now and doing fine.
