I know it's a ways off for those of us who just got our first flock of chicks, but I was thinking about it today and found myself looking at basket weaving kits (something about having chicks and the thought of having fresh eggs has awakened a whole new level of self-sufficient madness...errr...excitement in me! I've even been eyeing a wheat grinder to make my own flour??? Please tell me I'm not the only one...)

I saw another thread asking what folks collect their eggs in and most people say they usually forget their egg basket and use pockets in their shirt or the empty water bucket after refreshing water for their girls.

I'm rather looking forward to going out to the henhouse with my Dorothy of OZ wicker basket and collecting the beauties...so I was curious what all the other newby thoughts were on this.

Please share!

I've actually thought about this also, prob way more than I should lol. I actually found this adorable little wooden crate with Michigan cut out on the sides and thought I would use that. Not sure yet though I'm still thinking :)

I'm not a newbie, but I'll tell you what I use to collect my eggs with anyways. I bought what they call an egg apron from Amazon. The one that I bought has 2 strips of 6 pockets in each row sewed right onto the apron. So, I can put up to 12 eggs in it. I like the apron because the eggs are separated by the pockets and it leaves my hands free in case I spot something else out there that I need to do.
