In the Brooder
I have recently just started my new flock and had found a good bit of my information from here. I have mostly been a lurker, but thought I should actually join the ranks of actual members and post something here as well.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Very new to chickens personally, but family farm history. mom grew up on a dairy farm, and two generations and older where all farmers across Kansas and Nebraska
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 6 that have just turned 2 and 3 weeks old
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have one Silkie (The Fluffinator), one Mille Fleur D'Uccles (charlie brown), Two americana(Chewbacca, and sweat pea), and two Buff orpingtons (Sunny, and unnamed). I for the life of me cannot come up with a name I am happy with for the second BO that has claimed me. It is the smaller of the two and comes running to me when I call out Chick Chick!
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
In doing research in preparation for getting my first birds
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
currently I enjoy video games, fixing things, building things, and videotaping it and putting it up on youtube. I used to fly model airplanes but after going back to school and then having kids I do not have the time or money to dedicate to the hobby anymore. And with the new restrictions on the hobby I will likely never go back to it ;(
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am married with 2 children. My daughter will turn 11 at the end of this summer, and my son will turn 8 at the beginning of this summer. I have been married for almost 12 years and feel like an old man at times We have in addition to the 6 little birds 3 dogs. 1 puggle (bella) 1 puggle/boxer mix (penny) and one schipperke (marine) all of which are rescues. I work in IT at a hospital and am currently on the Virtual application delivery team. I mostly work with the virtual desktop environment. I am also typically involved with new technology rollouts in the hospital as well. As with most people IT was not my first career choice/path. I originally went to school for two years to be an certified aircraft mechanic (A&P) but graduated not long after 9/11 and ended up working for a cable company for a number of years. After being their for a few years i transferred to their ISP division and helped them to launch their phone product. After being in that position for a few months a started to get calls from coworkers asking for PC help on things that I thought were general knowledge. So i looked around decided it was getting hot outside and I was fat and I should probably go back to school and get a degree in something with computers.
Me and the wife have been wanting a few chickens for a number of years but finally live in a place and are in stable enough places that we can dedicate the time and effort to give them a happy home.
if you want any more info from me just ask
