edit: I guess this isn't really the knee and more the ankle? First time hatch first time with chicks. This little fur ball was having trouble walking, we thought they had leg displacement or whatever so we did the band-aid thing. 8 hours later when we checked again I noticed their knee looked all messed up, and they were not putting any weight on one leg. To me it looked dislocated so I extended and gently pushed the leg back into place and.... it looked good but then popped back out... I thought we should try to tape splint it but after realigning the leg a few times while trying to get the splint on boom it stayed in place. I think the picture speaks volumes to what i'm saying. Anyone ever have this problem any tips?

Checked on them a hour later and they were standing on the leg! Still limping around but actually standing on the leg.

Update : they got the band aid off and the knee came out again. Keeps comming out when they try to walk around.

We were thinking about splinting or a chick chair but we don't know how to do either.

So, you have more than one chick with this problem? Go to the search bar at the top of the page and type in "splay leg" or "spraddle leg". It sounds to e like what you might be dealing with. Hard to know without seeing pictures.

It's the only chick with the problem. I posted a link in my original post to a album with a picture.

Sorry - "they" and "their" confused me. Sounds like you're talking about more than one when you use plural pronouns.

Just looked at the pictures. Hard to see what's going on there. I would see how things go, and if its leg keeps popping out, it appears to be in pain or it can't stand, the kindest thing may be to put it down.

Sorry feels weird saying he or she when I don't know the gender. I tried to look at the feathers on the wings but I'm not sure.

The seccond picture is after its popped back in. Seems to stay in fir at least a few hours before it cones out again, that's why I mentioned the chick chair.

She/he seems to stand fine when the ligament is I properly but still kinda limps around mostly.

Small update. Kept legs taped to treat the leg displacement and monitored and readjusted the ligament throughout the day. Ligament has stayed in place for around 7 or 8 hours now and he/she is up and walking almost completely fine now. The injured leg is outwards a little but overall big progress.

Last night he jumped out of the box he was in inside the brooder and mixed with the other chicks. We've kinda lost track of which chick it is now! That'[s how well he was healed!
