My RIR Rooster Peanut butter, has been a mother hen to my meat chicks. To be honest, with all my new chicks. He lays down with them, covers them with his wings. Its really sweet to watch.
Does anyone else see this? I know RIR Roosters are suppose to be naturally aggressive, I have yet to see this especially with all my roosters? They are still under 6 months old. Could this be a reason?
He's okay when I go into the second coop, but when someone else goes in. He puts himself before the flock as if he's protecting them.

My roo is a wonderful Daddy. He tidbits his chicks, lets them pick at his face and wattles, comes on the run if I'm working with a chick and she starts yelling. He finds prime nesting sites for the girls, attends his broody hen, accompanies the girls to/from the nest when they are out free ranging. The other day, I opened the nest box to gather eggs. Guess who's inquisitive face met me? Jack was sitting in the nest box!
