Which of your chicken breeds went broody?

Yea they will. I have had more but ran them off the nest. The ones I let hatch was great mamas. I let the chick stay in the pen with all of the chickens and them mama's did their job and kicked butt.

So they both hatched fully but the second one to hatch passed away sadly, another egg (Easter Egger) had hatched the same day, Mamas being such a good mother!

I have a broody Dutch Bantam. She is super cute and small, but she loves to hatch eggs. She will finish with some chicks, lay eight to twelve eggs, and then wants to hatch again. I am hatching out some buff orpingtons for our neighbors. I love her, but if she lays for three years and wants to hatch out a brood every two or three months, I'm going to have a lot of chickens.

My light brahmas have gone broody in the middle of winter. If you're looking for a broody breed you can't go wrong with brahmas or silkies.

This is my first year with broodies. My first was a blue Isbar pullet. She hatched out 4 chicks that are almost 6 weeks now. I now have a Black Copper Marans pullet sitting on 8 eggs. Coincidentally, the day after she went broody, I had a splash Isbar do the same, but I broke her because I don't want to let more than 1 brood at a time. It's so much fun, though!

Loads of Silkies and a few Cochins
