Has anyone used this around your coop? Last year we had snakes come on the porch trying to get baby birds in a nest (wife freaked!) So she made me sprinkle this around the porch and house. Haven't seen any since. Wondering if it would bother the hens since it has a strong smell similar to moth balls.

I have never used any snake repellant, but if it smells like moth balls then it is Naphthalene which is a toxic compound and best not to use around your flock or yourselves.

Some reviewer on this product witnessed a snake crossing it without stopping :(

IMO better to use 1/2 inch hardware cloth around your coop/run- any snake that can get thru that would be a treat for the hens.

we have hardware cloth but during the day the doors are open and they have a open run. Was thinking spreading it along the back of the coop and run in the woods about 20ft in the brush.

Good luck, hope it works. I think the hens will avoid those areas.

(My hens live in a very controlled environment, and we don't have issues with snakes.)

Old folks used to say you could use moth balls to repel snakes. IDK. Read the ingredients for snake away and see if it is the same ingredient as moth balls. I do know moth balls are toxic and you do not need to have them in your house. Try a plastic bobble head owl statue for sale at Tractor Supply online and in the store. IDK where else you can buy them but other places sell them too. I have heard these fake owls repel snakes too, I don't know. But you cant have snakes crawling around. Get you some yard cats for a little while. Cats will eat snakes, but they will eat baby chickens too.

why would I want a cat that can eat chickens? My 80 pound pit would eat the cat. Lol. I'm talking about dusting the woods 20 or 30 feet behind the coop for added deterrence. But I'll stay away from using it now on.and yeah the fake owls never work. Used to use them at work places to keep away pigeons. They would nest on the owl lol
