Hello All,
Thank you all in advance for your input. I am wondering about my Embden goslings, 2 weeks old. This is my firsr time raising geese, I have raised plenty of chickens before. Question is, do I just feed them whenever? I know that broiler chickens eat until you cull them, I do not want them to get so big that you have to cull them because they cannot support their weight and I have egg laying chickens that I feed whenever they want. If I want to keep my Embden as pets, do I have to watch food intake or whatever they eat is ok?

Waterfowl feed if you can get it in your area. Maurzi is a good one. You might be able to get your feed store to order it for you. If not Purina flock raiser is good. As adults my geese get 1/2 lbs each every day plus they graze. As babies you can let eat what they want or feed them two or three times a day for all they can eat in 15 min. I think you should lower the protein after 3 weeks of age from 20% to about 15 or 16%. I will have to look that up though.

I was wondering about this too. I have 7 embden eggs in the incubator and 6 of them have viable chicks on the brink of hatching (beaky has a full hole in the egg, 3 others have cracks...all have wiggly shadows in the air pocket except for the one egg that never showed development from the start).

so tomorrow is day 30 of incubation and I was thinking I should pick up some appropriate feed. I have turkey grower pellets at the moment (organic) for my 4 chickens & 1 duck (3 hens. they get supplemental calcium but I wanted to avoid giving the boys mroe than they need! everyone seems delightfully happy and healthy on this so i'm going with it for now)

Can I toss them some soaked/mashed of the turkey grower to start with or is that a terrible idea because it's 20-22% protein? I know the waterfowl can get angel wing if they have too much...

and I live 5 mins from a blue seal and even less from a tractor supply so there are plenty of options. interested if anyone has a favorite goose feed, especially for babies. Last year was my first time with the poultry thing. the chickens and duck were my gateway drugs, I guess...

I do not feed over 20% for my waterfowl. Purina Flock Raiser is 20% protein. I have never had any problems in 5.5 year of ducks with this brand. This is year two for geese. You can add oatmeal to lower protein it also helps in ducks with preventing feather picking. I would assume it would be the same with geese.

Hello, to answer ur question my goslings, chickens and ducks all eat the same food and get fed the same I use the bottom of a old rabbit cage it gets half filled everyday once a day then they are let out into the outside fenced in part of coop to eat grasses and root for bugs. Hope this helps.
(I feed naturewise chick starter/ grower crumble)

Have you ever had any niacin deficiency with Naturewise in your ducks and geese? Since they need more niacin.

I like it because it's natural.

when I had one duckling with my chicks last year i fed all grower for chicks (unmedicated, of course!). I did watch the duckling in case she had an issue, and I had nutritional yeast I sprinkled on her food. I would've gotten brewer's yeast to add if she showed any problems, but she never did. I had her outside pretty early anyway since she was a July hatch, and she caught bugs to make up her own niacin I think...
