Using recycled material we threw this together for some of the older chicks that out grew the grower pen and were beating up on the bantams. The ten we moved into here think the world is out to get them, this should help calm the other down... For a 20 minute project it came together nicely. We put felt roofing paper under it so I can pull and toss the poop since its a solid bottom. Its sitting on my future 6 hole milk stand we haven't finished yet.

Its pretty good sized, but I need to finish the frame work to put it on a wire bottom instead of a solid bottom. I'm going to add another window to the front to keep the chicks from having a panic attack every time I open that pop door.

Theyre flighty enough.

Most of these are roos but it would still be nice to handle them before fereezer camp.

Nice set up!! I did something very similar. We thinned the heard of equipment shipping containers at work and I scored this one

took the lid off, added hinges to make it the door, removed the side and laid it on it's side.

Put linoleum flooring in to make cleanup easier and 12 chix and 2 duck are happy!!

Made a new waterer and feeder. The waterer does a MUCH better job at keeping the mess from the ducks at bay...

I have several tidy cats feeders and waterers too.

I told my husband I'm going to paint it white and add a second layer to the roof with an old piece of plywood and some shingles leftover from when wet did the roof. The double ventilation will help with this Texas heat.

We use 1/2" on any openings, bolting the wire down with roof in screws (they have the washer attached and are flat) then cover with scrap wood to create a framed look.

Staples don't hold and I've got enough predators to go around.

We're in East Texas. Coyote, hybrid dogs, Bob cats, fox, etc. If they can get past the LGD they deserve a snack... We have 10 dogs in patrol, but we still lose the occasional free ranging bird.

My coop will have 1/2" hardware cloth on the ground under the pier blocks and wrapped up and secured to the coop floor frame with roof screws as you mentioned.
We have coyotes, skunks, raccoons, possums, hawks, owls and eagles here. Looking into LGD as well. What breed do you have, or do you have multiple with 10 dogs?

We have Akbash and Pyrenees. They guard the goats, the chickens are just bonus but they have to outrun the dogs to live. My main girls, Connie and Maddie, think chicken is delicious. They have 5 that live in the goat pasture so they're allowed to live, because they're goats... LOL

We're considering a Pyrenees puppy... Don't want to get an older dog that will not treat our chicks, ducks, dogs, and Grand Daughter as we want them too... Neighbor's dogs and all other wild critters will be fair game though.
