How many acres of land do you need?

Welcome back. We were all curious of your question. What kind of operation are you contemplating? An large commercial operation, an organic operation, or a very large backyard flock? What do you have in mind?

BTW, send me a PM of the other sites you were referring to. I am curious of other venues that may lean more towards commercial organics.

ALL of us here are not of the mind set that all chicken farmers are bad.. I think a couple of people who posted even stated that..

Nope, just a few of the vocal ones.

But then on the other hand a few of the vocal ones are not anti big operations.

I have no problem with big operations and farms out to make money provided the animals aren't locked in tiny cages and given no enrichment. You can do it and still give the animals an acceptable life. I've seen a few large farms and read sites online of free ranging large numbers or using very large pens. The guinea hatchery nearby has very large pens with lots of guineas seperated in color and gives them things to do much like those of us with pet flocks entertain them in the coop during the winter. I see no problem with that since the animals have interaction with each other, space to move around, and things to do besides beat each other or themselves up. If you have to confine your animals nearly to the point they can't move around to keep them from getting injured there is something wrong with your setup and you shouldn't be raising animals.
