Baytril dose?

Could anyone tell me the dosage of Baytril (I assume the usual 10% injectable) to give my 6lb hen? I've seen the mg/kg stuff but am confused about the mg part. My vet prescribed 1.5 ml for her but she seems quite ill from it - and I'm worried I'm overdosing her.
Thanks for any help and experience you may give us. Her problem is a recurring case of bumblefoot.

I've only given baytril orally with liquid or pills so I can't advise you.  Why injections?  Hope your baby gets better.

Whoops, I was confusing and didn't realize it! It's the injectable solution but I've been instructed to give it orally. Glad you've had experience with this! What dosage did you give and did your bird hate the taste? I'm going to mix with gravy tonight. I know to be careful so she won't aspirate into her lungs - vet warned that can be dangerous.

Make sure the hen has food with each dose.  Baytril on an empty stomach can cause upset.  If she continues to be sick with it, it would probably be ok to cut back to 1 ml. It's most important that she has the medicine for a long enough time to kill the infection.  Hope this helps. smile

Thanks, to you and Ellen. I will make sure she's eating - and cut back to 1 ml if she won't. I wonder if I can break up the dose into 2 - morning and evening? Maybe that's a vet question.
Appreciate all your help.

The dosage is 10mg/kg.  Do you know how much she weighs?  If she weighs 5 pounds the dosage would be about 1mL.

Thanks! I'm guessing - but will weigh her when I get home.

She's exactly 5lbs so I'll cut back to 1ml. Poor thing hates the taste - I tried gravy and some of her favorite foods like grapes too. She wouldn't take it. Maybe tuna juice will hide the taste --- oh can't wait to have that all over my clothes tonight. lol  She's eating well  though - today I hung chunks of cabbage in their wire hanger and they went crazy over it.

I just checked a chart that said   1mL.  equals 1000mg.
6 lbs.  equals  3 kg.
so at  10 mg. per  kg. you should give  30 mg. to your 6 lbs. chicken.
if you are giving her 1mL,  you are giving her 1000 mg. that seems way to much, make sure your Vet.  got that conversion right. If she prescribed1.5 mL. that would be 1500 mg.
Please,  anyone else check on this.  I will check some more with  with someone else on this and get back a little later.

Thankyou for checking on that for me. Poor hen has awful diarrhea from the Baytril. She's eating okay but hates the taste - even when hidden in treats. So I have to force her to take it. Breaks my heart. I may call today and see if there's any other effective treatment. She's an angel for her foot soaks - nearly falls asleep in my arms. She's a great pet - but getting tired of this. 3 months is a long time to be tormented.
