I appreciate all the answers. I live in Arvada Colorado and the reason for only 2 is that is all I am allowed by the city. I am now dreaming about getting my birds and I dont even have the set up done yet:) Stock show is about to commence and I am really excited about going and seeing the chickens and talking to the people showing and breeding. I have wanted chickens since I was a kid and got to play with my grandmas birds.

LOL Arvada.  Been there.  My wife is from Longmont and here Dad is in Westminster right off the interstate behind what used to be a King Soopers.  That was a lifetime ago during an interesting journey I went on.  My most memorable moment was a guy I met.  He never really said much but the last time I saw him he the cops were hauling him away.  They were called cuz he thought he was a helicopter. Had his arms outstretched and was spinning like crazy.  LOL  How can I forget Arvada.

Same here blueseal - I get 1-2 eggs per day out of 2 hens and we get 10 hours of light here in central VA.  Could it be age related?  Mine are only 10 months old.

could be age related but they should start laying at 7 months or so . i have 2 pullets that started laying this week and they will be 7 months old january 19th. i think it also has a lot to do with the cold weather. on cold days i get fewer eggs on warmer days i get more eggs .i cant complain either way happy chicken farming big_smile

welcome-byc  My birds prefer to be in the shade over sunlight. My run is covered. I do have a fenced in area off my run for them to free range. There are some pictures on my BYC Page.

Ok ... So just got back from Stock Show and have decided which breed! I'm totally hooked on those Orplington Buffs. Huge birds and seem to be sweet natured, even found a couple of local clubs to join and a breeder. So now I just have to get my pen prepped so I can be ready for my birds. Im getting really excited about it lol

Hey breezy,

I did send you an email but never heard back and I just found this thread.  I should tell my mom and dad they can get two girls.  roll  Yeah like dad would go for that....

Is the breeder you found around here?  I've got 2 Buff Orps and they are sweet girls.

Hmm Jeremy, I probably know that helicopter... just kidding
