Still none out of 5 (25 weeks old).

Crossed over into crazy chicken lady via chicken math: 2 generations of chickens in my tiny house/yard on Main Street in a small New England town. Current flock includes: 1 columbian wyandotte, 1 golden-laced wyandotte, 1 Olive Egger, 1 blind Ameraucana (hawk attack) residing in my living room, and a whole lot of new chicks including: bantam silkies, RIR, black Australorp, Leghorn, and EEs.

mine are happy healthy laying machines too!! I'm a little worried about them burning out earlier than others?

8 eggs from 11 hens today. Life is good! I now have a few teachers at the school I work at asking to buy eggs from me...I can't even begin to know what to charge and I don't want any hard feelings at work so I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

My ten or so hens (one a bantam) are about 7 months old.  In August I was getting from 3-5 daily.  Then for about two weeks I got 5 a day consistently.  The last three weeks I have gotten only 3 a day consistently.  At what age should they start laying more?  How many should I expect from one grey bantam, one arucana, 3 or 4 Buff Orphington, one Plymouth Rock, two or three black (Jersey giants?), and two white Brahmas?  The bantam and the arucana are definitely not laying yet because I don't have any green or tiny eggs.

There is a thread from not to long ago where this very topic is discussed. I charge $4/doz to my coworkers, the going rate at the farmers market here in Boise just went up from $4 to $5 or $5.50/doz(and they sell out every weekend!) Me too, I can't keep up with demand. I explain some of the quality, nutrition and ethical differences between my backyard/free range eggs vrs store bought battery caged hens. Some people have no idea of the differences, and some have never even had a brown or other than white egg before! I was raised on backyard RIR and duck eggs. I thought white store bought eggs where siclkly LOL!! So lots of education and information to be learned and shared!

Well the next time you are at the grocery store check out the egg prices especially those organic ones! LOL! That word just cracks me up! They pin that label on stuff just so they can up the price! The last time I checked the organic eggs were 3.98 a dozen.  I would never charge anyone that much money. Most of the time I give them away! But I have a steady costumer that buys 4 dozen every week. They give me 10.00 for 4 dozen. oh and I got 10/11yesterday!  Haven't gathered yet today.

That's really nice of you! I try to give some away too, donate some to the church refugee garden workers behind my house(along with some compost)! Wasn't sure why you thought this $3.98 was so ridiculous? I guess it would be unethical of the people claiming "organic" or "cage free" if that isn't the case?? I spend $32.94 a month on two bags of feed(not organic just whatever is on sale at the feed store), and a whole bunch of other stuff too, so my 6-8 dozen a month I do sell or give away, I only make up to $32 dollars on. I guess the people I sell them too know that they have less cholesterol and more nutrients than battery birds eggs, and the chickens they come from have a pretty darn good life too, so that makes them happy to pay the $4, and I get to re-coup some of the cost I incur on these birds.
