8 eggs today
@gander007 I am ready for my "bad" week to end! The dog is doing great, but she doesn't want to "relax & stay crated" so she doesn't tear her stitches or anything, but so far, so good. The rooster is about the same. Still can't keep his neck & head in the right place. Has a horrible time trying to keep his feet under him. Awful balance. I'm giving him vitamins, water, and liquid egg through an eye dropper. I have a container of feed in his confined area which he is at least trying to eat ( based on scattered food). I'm starting to wonder if he could have an ear infection.
Today when I got home from work, I found 1 of my 2 two week old Penedecenca chicks dead in the brooder. Sigh... My hubby & I just had a "discussion" last night about them. I am using the heating pad (with a wire hoop covered with cloth on top of it, it makes like a tent for them to go in & be kept warm ). Hubby thought I should switch to a heat lamp because he never sees the chicks outside of the "tent". With there only being 3 chicks in the brooder (which is outside but right up next to the house, I didn't think that would keep them warm enough. He didn't think the set up I have would let them adjust to the cold temps because he didn't think they ever came out of the tent. Anyway, I probably should have had the heat lamp and the heating pad tent! The yellow chick was the chick that came out the most & is the biggest. The food is right up against the tent, so they don't have to come all of the way out to get food, but they do have to come all of they way out to get water. At any rate, one of the little black Penedesencas was out of the tent and dead when I got home today. Not sure if it was the cold or not eating enough or both or something else. Do I need to say I now have a heat bulb in (the bulb that was in didn't put out much heat (if any). And I left the heating pad & tent in there as well. It gives extra protection from winds even though the brooder cage is down inside a wooden sided box.
November is a new start, right?!!
Forgot to add that I also started adding chick probiotics from chick saver in their water last night.
