I am worried the entire thing has hardware cloth and the first part I wrapped the entire thing with the hardware cloth even under the plywood outside. But the new addition, I put in, I do not have any hardware cloth under the plywood but I went 8" deep and put hardware cloth all around and even under the door where 4X4 lays, I have hardware cloth wrapped.
In the old coop that was built last week has matching shingles with the house but the new one has the plastic roof very well secured. I wonder if raccoon will burst through the roof. I do not think these raccoon has either rabies or distempers(sP) since they do not act strange, mind their own business eating seeds but I did see couple of days back that they were looking toward the ducks. I am not sure waht to do.
Please tell me how to kill coons in a humane. way

PLease look at the construction in my next thread  and indicate if a huge raccoon ( that I do have around this house) wll bust through the roof.
.
We trap them and shot them in the trap. If you set free they will kill again. Racoons are mean. We shot them and feed to the buzzards. They only, the get some food, we get relief from they murdering our birds.

About Racoons- If well fed, they may or may not steal eggs, kill chicks. Eventually, they will find a way and will kill and eat chickens, ducks and turkeys. I have lost several.

It is illegal to transport and to relocate them in the state of Ohio. I have never heard of a case being prosecuted. Please don't do it near me.

They are not bad creatures and we are the intruders. That said, if you refuse to kill them or move them, you WILL suffer loss.

Good Luck,

Shawn

Also, these raccoons never attacked my fish, never killed any thing and never acted weired in day light but they come out. They do not act funny.

However, we as human are terrified of them since we do not want our live stocks kills and I certainly understand that. Also, may be with evolution, they learned to

come out in the day light. No, from the look of their calmness, thety do not have Rapid or any other diseases since they go away if you spray water or just clap your hands.

That being said, I am not defendingt raccoons but I will find a way to get rid of them. i.e electric fencing, hiring people. etc.

Look to see if there is a pest removal company in your area if you cannot/will not kill coons in  your area. Here in Central Ohio (Union County & I think Franklin county) there is a company called Varmint Guard. Check your phone book or call your local Humane Society as they may have the information you need. Oh and a coon can still be a carrier of rabies or distemper and not show symptoms. With Rabies some call it dumb rabies is no symptoms are seen. Rabies can be there for up to 6 months before symptoms show. After symptoms shows the infected animal lives about 10 days and dies. That is why when someone is bit by a dog the state requires the dog be quarantined for 10 days then examined to be sure no symptoms or death has occurred.  Hope this helps. wink.png
