Lancaster Ohio, Fairfield county here. I have 11 golden comets. Who have just started laying we have had 2 eggs so far. This is my 3rd attempt at this. My advise to anyone just starting is make sure you predator proof!

I think we all run into the predator issue at some point, no matter HOW predator proof we think we are.

Which breed is the most successful at continuing daily egg laying during the winter with artificial light provided?

Thank you

I have golden comets, black stars, and amberlinks and was able to get 10-11 eggs a day from my 11 chickens.

I have two Buff Orpingtons, two Rhode Island Reds and one Plymouth Rock.  They're 5 months old now.  Below is a picture of three of them.

Last year our Black Australorps never missed a beat in the winter time.  Out of 5 hens I got 3 - 4 eggs a day.  That was in Tennessee though.  My New Hampshire Reds stopped laying from November til March.

But I'm very impressed with the BA.  We'll see what a NW Ohio winter does to them this year.

My middle son got a 11 this spring so we will have 15 total.  I figure by the end of Aug we'll be getting a dozen eggs a day.

I hope I raccoon proof my yard but after reading this, I will put the cage up tonight. So much going on here. mechaniaing plumbing friendly aviary that makes water change a breeze, I do it three times a week or more. Installing Uv lights, painting their ladder that will go in the water so they can climb up easily. paint my Koi pnod holding area structure I just build , painting my house and the list can continue.
