I would be more than happy to wait. If I bring another breed of chicken on the place I think my wife will kill me. Spring 2014 would be even better because then I can slip them in with my own eggs and she'll never know the difference. LOL.

LOL! I hear that :-) I'm trying to get a few new breeds up into this corner of the woods, so yeah, that might be doable tongue.png

Carpe diem -- and if you can't, grab a chicken!

With this cold snap I have been putting vasaline on my girls combs to help prevent frost bite. The first night when they went into the dog house I couldn't get to them to do this. I think some might have some mild frostbite but not sure. How can you tell? What I am seeing is some of the tips on some of the birds look pale now when the rest of the comb looks red. Can some one tell me what I need to be looking for? Anyhow, I thought I would have a hard time doing this by myself but they have been really good about letting me pick them up and applying it to their combs. Another unexpected thing is I have to keep the lid on the jar inbetween applying it to each bird as I have 1 girl who has decided she likes the taste of vasaline. sickbyc.gif Maybe shes trying to get those eggs to slide out easier. tongue.png Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge with this newbie. big_smile.png
