We have those too-$15 per pullet, $5 per cockerel (that is also the price for the Legbars).

Sounds a LOT better than GFFs price of $49/pullet and $19/cockerel.

I think I'll take my chances with hatching eggs, though, in 2014. And since you're only 100 miles away, that's an easy day trip. I just might be giving you a call then.

Morgan36,

The person you'll want to talk to is Jeff Lay. He's in Miamsburg and has already started shipping out hatching eggs. His web site is here: http://www.crainsrunranch.com/buckeye_babychicks.html

But since you don't want to drive, Jeff may be in Lucasville for the poultry show Memorial Day weekend. And by then I'm sure he'll have plenty of chicks. Another person you might want to hook up with is Joe Shumaker. Here's his web site: http://www.shumakerfarmpoultry.com/ He claims not to have any eggs or chicks at this time, but if you talk really sweet to him, he might be able to make some arrangements for you. Or direct you to someone who does.

There are a lot of Buckeye breeders in Ohio so I'd recommend checking out the Breeder's Directory for Buckeyes either here:  http://www.americanbuckeyeclub.blogspot.com/p/breeders-directory.html  or here:   http://www.americanbuckeyepoultryclub.com/Breeders.html  And yes, there are two Buckeye Breed clubs. The first is for general chicken raising with some interest in showing. The second is concerned primarily with show chickens.

Good luck finding eggs. I'd offer you some of mine, but I'm going to be hatching them all out this year just as soon as I get my DIY cabinet 'bator up and running.

I'm a member of the ABPC and I surely wouldn't say they are concerned primarily with show chickens. Plenty of people experienced in breeding for meat and egg production in the club too.

OK, I've lost track of who has what. Here's what my feeble memory is dredging up:

Cluckitall has Rhodebars, but none available yet.

Babymakes6 - do you have Cream Legbars or were you just recommending them?

And then a question for anybody - How do the CLB eggs compare to blue EE eggs? Are they ligher/darker/about the same? Just wondering.

And I need another breed of chicken like I need a hole in the head, so IF the CLBs lay bluer eggs than EEs, I'm still going to hold off for at least a year before taking the plunge on them and Rhodebars. I'm serious this time. I will NOT become a victim of chicken math. barnie.gif
