OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

It's not been a good night here. I come home to a 5-6week old SFH dead and now there is something wrong with my stallion! He stands there and shuffling his back feet. Holds each one on the toe for a few seconds and then switches. Checked for heat in his feet and don't feel anything. Don't believe he is trying to founder on me. Took him out into the yard and he seemed stiff but loosened up fairly quick and willingly trotted on a lead rope for a few. I cant tell if it's his feet, legs or even his stomach bothering him. He's very willing to eat and seems happy other than the endless shuffling. I gave him some banamine (which is a pain reliever) to se if it helps. Thought for a while he was cold but he is growing a coat and is not shivering. I'm stumped.

Oh dear. :fl for you that it's just over-exertion and not laminitis. You said no heat, so that's definitely good.
I'm thinking over exertion. He was trimmed Wednesday and has been fine until tonight. When he was trimmed the farrier accidentally cut his frog( due to the fact I've been fighting thrush here and his frog was eaten down a bunch by it) on his front right hoof. So if anything with him acting sore I'd expect the front. I've got that front hoof wrapped and about an inch of gauze padding the bottom, even though he didnt seem sore on it afterwards, just mainly for cleanliness reasons. Two weeks to brown county fair and of course someone is trying to play hooky!

Ok. Just on the showgirl thread! Can I tell ya how EXCITED I am about them!!!

Thank you for the prayers! You will not be disappointed by showgirls...They are cute and hilarious. I always say that mine are late for an appointment. They will be all busy in one spot then suddenly RUN to the next...always in a hurry!

I'm so, so sorry for the sudden losses...My oldest Silkie hen had been failing slowly for the last few weeks. She passed away on Friday night. I'm just thankful that she was able to spend the last few days of her life with the littlest of chickies that she adored so much and that I was able to hold her when she passed. Her sweet nature and beauty will live on in the gorgeous pullets that she left behind...so sad..

banamine seems to have helped buck. He was not shuffling this morning as bad. Checked on him a couple times last night and he was either laying down sleeping our was eating hay. I think he'll be fine. Gave him another dose of banamine this morning and had to come to work so Josh says he'd keep am eye on him for me today. Hoping he'll be ok today and won't need to be drugged up on pain killers for more then a day or two more. Still seemed happy this morning.

So the zooming is a breed thing. :gig I had wondered. So entertaining to sit outside and watch.

I'll let Chicky-Chick know she created a fan? LOL. I set 5 showgirl/silkie eggs (plus a bunch of silkie and other breeds) today. All shipped and highly porous, so I'm holding my breath. Soo hoping to get at least a couple showgirls out of them.

On a sad note.. I know losses happen, but why does it alway seem to be the best/favorites? My so-sweet black Silkie rooster, whom I was just snuggling with through the storm the other evening, I found lying dead in the coop this morning, with a broken neck. In the position he was in, Lord only knows how he managed it.. Poor little sweetheart. So sad.
I'll hope with you!!
