OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Hi all, I don't really know where else to turn with this odd topic! We have a fairly small yard (almost 2 acres), on which we let our girls free range. The majority of our trees are ash. We don't have any Emerald Ash Borers yet but we know they're coming. We're trying to come up with a game plan and I'd like to save a few of our very large ash trees but I'm concerned about the chemicals. Imidacloprid is used to treat grub infestations...don't chickens eat grubs? Trying to think this through...we'll probably only be able to afford to treat a few trees, the pesticide will be applied within 18-24" of the tree trunk so it seems the chemical would be taken up quickly by the tree. Have any of you battled the EAB?

We also have about two acres with few trees. We have red maples that are dying and we are replanting new trees this fall (not red maple!)
EAB was just confirmed in Darke County last week for the first time. I wish you well and hope you can save some of your trees! Sorry I can't help you out!

I'm in Morrow, Warren County. We turned our hay barn into a chicken barn. Still lots to do. Lots to learn. Making incubators, pop can furnaces, I can go on and on. Love everyday! Chickens are so rewarding. Wish I started years ago. If you live nearby, contact me and stop by.
