Quintessentially southwest: keeping a creosote branch in the shower.

Creosote is a scrubby bush that grows everywhere around here. It has a long history of medicinal use by indigenous peoples. It's used to treat respiratory ailments and has natural anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.

That unique fresh aroma that predominates in the desert after a rain storm comes from the oils in its waxy leaves. You can get the same rain storm smell and some of the medicinal benefits of creosote by putting a branch in your shower.

That's about as close as we get to rain this time of year. We have to simulate it in our bathrooms. 😒

It's just one of those weird southwest things. Here's a creosote bush.
