How make easy garden fence for chickens?

I am using the electric wire instead of the netting, more to keep predators out than the chickens in. Something with a dog like print killed one of my hens a few months ago. I bought the stirrup posts. I bought the smaller posts for my electric wire and the taller posts for my fence wire. There are pictures on my BYC Page.

I too, am worried about my garden. My chickens did not find it til after the harvest. (they were still young) now that they are older they venture farther away. I sell daylilies and The chickens have seemed to scratch the heck out of my personal gardens. Not sure what I'm going to do this year. I did not like reading what MP had to say but I think she tells the truth. Oh my, what did I get myself into getting chickens? I need my veggie garden as I can A LOT of stuff.

I want a portable fence to extend my chicken's run (7 by 13 dog kennel) and was going to make the neat panels of fence I saw in a back issue of Backyard Poultry. I have plastic garden fence and even some 4 foot metal fence, but they aren't easy to roll up and get out of the way. I need to make the fence so that I can move it every few days in a different direction, so they don't wear out the grass and so that DH doesn't have to permanently mow around it.
What kind of posts do you use with it? I think this would roll up easier than other fences and I wouldn't have to make the portable panels. I would throw netting over the top and they would only be in there when I can watch them, so I'm not looking for predator proof. Thanks for the idea!

I am going with T posts and chicken wire this year but I have actually found 3-4 feet is sufficient to keep our free range chickens out. They have plenty of other acreage to dig up and eat so it's not about them actually working at thwarting my veggie growing efforts so much as simply meandering into the garden if there's no fence around it. Good luck.

I use plastic fencing, bamboo poles, and zip ties. I started out with T posts, but the bamboo is much cheaper.

We have tried the same method, but with some 5 & 6 foot rebar posts alternating with bamboo. First we used the light weight deer fencing, but after about 8 months our chickens learned how to peck holes in it. Then we moved on to the heavier deer fencing, but it won't stretch tight and straight, and our chickens have just learned to climb up the sags and fly over.

Any tips on how to get that plastic fencing to stretch tight and stand up tall without putting in permanent posts? (We move our run about every week).

We appreciate any ideas/tips!
