Hello, I just got chickens for the first time. They are only a week or so old. We like the idea of "giving them a snack" but we dont know what to give them. Fruit ok? Maybe not milk product? No sugar? Any veggie? Thanks
 
chickens might be able to taste sugar:

There is a recent paper on the identification of Gustducin, the mammalian proteins responsible for tranduction of sweet, bitter and umami taste, in chicken taste buds

and the reference that chickens might have poor sense of taste, but comparable sense of smell as to humans:
