Do crows pose a threat?

I have numerous crows on the roof and in the trees right above where my babies free-range during the day and have not had any incidents, and haven't even seen the crows pay the least bit of attention to my babies. However, they may be avoiding my very large dog vs. being nice crows.

With that said, I wouldn't take the chance. Even if the crows don't cause any problems, there are always cats, hawks, owls and other predators to worry about! Put chicken wire, bird netting, shade cloth, etc over the pen just for extra insurance. Can be secured and removed easily by "MacGyver-ing" some hooks out of a wire coat-hanger. Cut into four pieces and bend into "S" hooks with pliers.

Good luck with your new kids! I'm a proud new mom too!!! My Silkies and new Araucanas:

Crows can really pose a threat to chicks! We let our free-range (but surrounded by an electric fence) Khaki Campbell ducks nest this spring, under a blackberry bush, in the tall grass - with a protective shelter right next to them with food and water. We figured they were pretty predator proof

. 20 ducklings hatched (from 3 mama's). The crows had been waiting, in the trees for about a week before the duck eggs hatched (how did they know?). We normally have a crow here or there, but when this flock came in they cawed LOUD and obnoxiously all day, from the tops of the trees. As soon as the babies hatched, they started attacking! One would get the adult duck's attention while the other grabbed and carried off a duckling!

They did this for about 3 days before I could figure out what was going on. By then I was only able to save (and bring inside to raise) 3 of the ducklings (and that was after scaring off the rather brazen crows - they didn't like their meal being taken away!).

Soooo, I would assume that they would/could treat unprotected chicks the same way

I know crows are SMART, and that there is a reason a flock is called a "murder of crows", but I never thought they would actually carry away 17 ducklings
