Barred rock rooster/Rhode Island Red hen

Hi, I am new to the forum and from what I've seen so far, this is a great place!  I live in SE Oklahoma and have a flock of Barred Rocks and RI Reds.  I know that when the RI rooster mates with the BR hens, I will get black sex links.  Does anyone know what the outcome of the BR rooster mating with the RI hens?  Thanks in advanced for all your help.

I would like to know the answer too.

It is my understanding that the hens will all be barred and the roos will be black

all barred progeny.. if the rooster is homozygous....

The difference between pets and pests is only on which side of the fence they're standing... keep your animals in your own property.

There is no sex-linking in a Barred Rock male x RIR female.  All offspring will have barring.

That's kinda what I thought from reading about other breeds but couldn't find anything specifically about what I have.  I just got a brand-new incubator and turner as a gift yesterday and can't wait to try it out.  Didn't know I was getting it and had already promised a flat of eggs to a customer for tomorrow. . . darn it!  Hmmm......wonder if he would believe the hens are on strike? big_smile  Just kidding.  Thanks for the info everyone.  Where are u located Rodrigues?  I'm in oklahoma about 30 miles from AR.

haha! You're a bit closer to AR than I am.  I'm up in the NE OK/ NW AR part of the states.

I drive to OK on weekends to work..and then drive back to AR for school!

I've got some eggs in the incubator right now of BRxRIR cross, they are due to hatch this Fri. and Sat.

Some also call them Gourmet Blacks smile

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, you can make a purse out of it, but it won't be silk. LOL

Maybe in about another 30-40 years I'll get this "being an expert" thing figured out by then. LOL

Still trying to practice Granny's advice 'if you don't have anything nice to say then keep it to yourself' LOL been at it for 45 years still don't have it down pat yet!

They'll all be barred with a BR sire. No sexlinking at all.
