if i use fresh manure will it burn the plants at all? i also want to know how often i can water with it and how long will it keep? also if i use a normal size pillowcase, how much should i use for 35 gallons? sorry for all the questions but this sounds like such a great idea that i want to be sure to do it right

I have some of the same questions. Will it burn if to strong of a poop/water mixture is used.

This is how I plan on getting my chicken poop tea. I was going to call it chicken tinkle though !!!

I raise silkies so this would be silkie soup ???

Anyway, they are always sitting on top of their waterers and pooping in it. Plus digging and getting their wood shavings in their water container as well.
So I don't want to clog up the sink (I use the basement sink to get water) so what I have been doing is put a large kitchen container on the top of a 5 gallon pail.
Then I empty the chicken waterer that is filled with poop and shavings. I don't empty the whole waterer however just enough to get all of the poop, chips and feathers out of the waterer so it doesn't go down the drain.

The strainer works very good at straining out the wood shavings and the water can then be put down the drain without clogging it up or hurting the septic or drain field

.

Then I got to thinking that what a waste of all of this "green" and I mean color green and "green" chicken tinkle water. Now what I plan on doing is puttiing a spout at the bottom of the pail so I don't have to lift it and empty it and it can either go directly out the spout and tube I attach to it or I can put it in milk jugs.

So what do you all think about this. Would I need to let it set a while (ferment or ??) before I use it as well?

Any and all thoughts welcome !!!

You think this is gross, I was at the farmers market and they were selling worm tea !!!! I HATE WORMS !!!!! I put the bottle down imediately !!! Almost upchucked !!!! just at the thought of worm tea !!!

Ok so i dont know what we did wrong but after a week this stuff smelled so bad we couldnt stomach the smell. Worse than raw suage! We put a how in the can and ran. If the grass grows like mad where we drained i will b angry. But i just couldnt see putting something that rank on my veggies. The flies would have ate us alive. Any ideas?

you don't have to be too concerned about the quantity. The exact amount of poop to water isn't too important. If you have too much water, it will be weak but will still be good in the garden. Too little water and you will have a strong concentrate that you will add water to before using, or you will put a spoon of it in your watering can if you are going small scale.
Take whatever droppings you have, let it sit for a couple of days in water - pails, buckets, tubs, etc. Best if you can stir in now and then (once or twice a day), but if you don't, no problem. It is stinky! If you let it too brew too long, no problem except it will have a higher bacterial count and will smell more.

You don't need a burlap bag or a pillowcase, it just means you can pull it out like a giant tea bag and use the liquid. Without it, you will have some solids which can just settle to the bottom of your container .

Depending on your water to poop ratio, you'll end up with a high nitrogen content. To use, make sure it looks like weak tea - add water to dilute it. Better to over dilute than to have it too strong. Don't let it splash up on any edible portion of the plants. Wash your hands after applying.

Go easy! too much nitrogen will burn the plant (foliage will turn dry ).

You can google manure tea and find out more pretty easily.

How did your grass grow? I bet it did great with all that fertiliser!! Wet manure will always stink, that's normal
