Do chickens sleep during the day?

Hey guys! When I went to let my girl out of Jail this morning, she had laid a shell less egg. She is like 4 years old so she in not new to laying at all. I also found broken shell in her poop. She is eating a ton and her energy seems good again, but I am pretty worried about her. I've posted in a couple of places, but am not getting much response. Anyone ever deal with a broken egg on the inside? I'm trying to figure out what I should do. She is my favorite. Thanks!
 
I have two week old chicks, and they sleep almost a full 24 hours... Is it normal? It’s my first time raising chicks.
