It's so ridiculous that Brussels can tell Britain anything. This will all turn
around. Economies cannot sustain themselves when overly regulated
and controlled by politicians. History has proven that over and over again.
Great Britain and the U.S. must continue to be the world leaders our
nations have been for centuries, in you case a millennium.

We try not to purchase things from other countries, or even other states, if there's a local alternative.

In WA State...
*Why buy Purina or Del's chicken feed when there's X-Cel, produced in Yakima?
*Buy WA State wines, not ones from CA, Australia, or Europe. (caveat... I love Oregonian wines)
*Can/freeze your own fruits & veggies during the summer so that your tomatoes come from your yard or a local farm instead of Mexico.
*Eat seasonally.

Finally, I don't mind purchasing items from other countries *if*:
*they're gourmet, high quality, or specialty items not otherwise available locally (think Polish pottery, merino wool from Uraguay, Thai silks, French enameled cast iron)
*I get them in a thrift store. My money stays in the local economy rather than being sent overseas.

not only MADE in America but GROWN in America!!!!! Know where your fruit and veggies are from...Hondorus, Mexico, Do they have an FDA????I dont mind greenhouse tomatoes from Canada in the winter but Peru??? Indonisia??? Why cant we buy local...I saw Potatoes from Mexico Maine and Idaho not good enough??? I will get off my soap box sorry

The reason I buy/eat local as much as we can has less to do with varying standards in other countries and more to do with the price the planet pays when someone in the USA wants Chilean strawberries or asparagus in January. It's an unecessary waste of energy (oil, electricity) and a luxury to transport those items that are out of season.

Well said yet again PC...our two counries have always been united in the good fight irrespective of what the rest of the world may think...they can have their opinions and we as allies always together can have ours...... there will come a time and it is approaching when the British people will have had enough of Brussels "rulings".....we can and will rule ourselves...with our own Queen and Parliment...Brussels underestimates the British like so many before them...we appear complacent...because we are tolerant (and we form proper queues in shops! dont push!)
but we are being pushed beyond our tolerance levels...and then bam....we unite and fight back......much like yourselves....

JennsPeeps, I do the same.
I will buy from other places if the quality is much better and especially specialty food stuff. I was born and raised in West Germany and just cannot live without some of the goodies I grew up with. Some I can make myself, but others...like German or Swiss chocolate... I only eat one or two chocolate bars a year, so I indulge myself.
But I get soo much more satifaction from having a huge bowl of salsa and chips. Where the salsa was canned last summer with ingredients grown in our own garden. (I used "The Parsons Wife"s recipe and we love it). We have a tortilla factory in our city and they are really good.
In the evenings I mend clothes or crochet something new, while watching tv. Drinking juice I made last summer, eating toasted pumkin seeds or snacking on walnuts from the neighbor's tree.
I'm wearing a sweatshirt that is getting ratty around the edges and two pair of socks to keep from turning up the heat.
I wear old beat up clothes most of the time. I have nice clothes that I put on whenever I leave the house. That way I don't need as many. Although sometimes I go out to tell SO that I am leaving and the dog jumps on me and now I have muddy pawprints on my nice blouse and then step in chicken poo and have chicken poo on my nice shoes.

Well at least I try.

I see the Chinese have bought the Waldorf Astoria Hotel for $1.95 billion dollars. That works for me. I will never stay at that hotel.
