  You've found a great spot to learn about chickens.  Just ask away, any questions you might have.  We'll all be glad to walk you through it and give you lots of encouragement.  You'll soon see that chickens are an addiction for some of us.

Ask anything you need. back in 93 I knew NOTHING about chickens....my husband had them when we got married. We kept some until about 7-8 years ago, then got out. Now we are back into chickens!

I have my own now LOL separate from his!

HI!! we are glad to have you here! It will be easier if you ask what you want because I myself can fill up dozens of thread pages with advice and I am way newer than most on here!!Of course I have a big mouth/typing hand!!

Looks great!  Just make sure you can get in there easily to clean everything.  Either by opening the top or one side.  That's something I learned the hard way. 

Wow thank you to everyone who posted.. As I said before I am very new to this..so new in fact that our first chicks will arrive tomorrow. We've set up a really nice brooder area for the chicks and have turned on the heat lamps already to get ready for the chicks to arrive. We have 6 Rhode Island Reds that we're picking up tomorrow from the local feed store then ordering a couple more to get us up and running on our begining "flock??"not sure if that's the appropriate term for a group of chickens. We wanted to have all Dominiques but the local feed store doesn't have them in stock so we're ordering them. I personally have No experience with chickens. However, my hubby has been around chickens his entire life. His grandfather raised chickens long before hubby was born and up until he died 3 years ago. Hubby has been begging and pleading with me to get some chickens and I've always turned him down until recently. We live in the upstate area of South Carolina between Columbia and Greenville. We live in a very rural/country setting that allows for us to keep chickens.  I'm really excited about this new adventure in our lives, but feeling quite inadequate due to the lack of information that I personally know. I've been reading around online (mostly here) and have learned a huge amount of info about baby chicks and what to feed them, setting up their brooding area etc.. that's about all I can think of at this point..but I will be sure to ask questions here if I need to. Thank you all again for a warm welcome and offers to help answer questions.
