I have spent a decent day answering emails, selling on line a good bit and getting the most wonderful back rub from my darling hubby while trying to read a book. That didn't work as a back rub is the most awesome of gifts. NOW I remember why I married him. LOL

I got 2 new Pekin ducks last night and this morning they gave me two huge delightful eggs. Thanks to Debora for bringing them over at 10:30 last night.

Now back to my book because all my chores are done and I am selling on line more now than receiving customers. Frees my time up a lot more and I actually make more to give back to the feed store. LOL

Hope you had a Happy Birthday! A backrub does sound heavenly after all the chicken chores!

Thank you!

Give Toby and Bride kisses and hugs from me. I miss the kids and their little brat selves. LOL Not that there aren't several here taking up the challenge to be like them.

Yes, Patsy, it was grand! Thank you!

Now he is in the kitchen slaving over a hot stove making my favorite meal of pink pork chops, his own creation but totally divine!

Going now to play and photograph my newly hatched lavender Muscovy ducklings. They are so cute!

Amy sounds like a great day, and a new baby too.  We had a wyandotte from ort chickens hatch yesterday.  shes lonely, no one else has hatched.  Its Roo Roo first born, not sure which wyandotte hen though.  We have 1 more wyandotte due to hatch, but we think it died a couple days ago, so not expecting it to hatch.  We then have 3 other hoping they will pip tonight.  Then Next weekend, we hope to get the 2 turkey eggs to hatch.

Oh and Amy, Bride has been giving us eggs 2 days in a row, skip one day and then 2 in a row.  This has been real consistent.  We have 6 in the incubator, and 4 more waiting to go in.

I have been busy here getting things settled in with my new chicks. Here is my Picasa slide show of the progress so far. https://plus.google.com/photos/102158606010105530218/albums/5722792796764153697?authkey=CKy5qMSNoNDM5wE

I expect to finish the roof and put the final touches on the hen house on Monday. My dad will be back to help me then.

I have two chickens (EE) that I am worried might end up being roo's. Can any of you help me?Sugar

Thanks Everyone for the welcomes!!!! I am VERY new to Chickens (they are still in the house!!) I now for sure I have one Buff Orpington (gender unknown so far!) and 5 other babies from the "Red Pullet" bin at TSC.  I think I have 2 Red Production and 1 Golden Comet in those, but the other two are a mystery to me.......

I moved to the area in September from Ohio, but lived down here before as a child and really wanted to come back.  I could never have chickens before due to strict livestock regulations... BOOOO!!

I am cluelessly learning how to be a good chicken momma!! But so far, so good I think. I mean they are still alive so that's good, Right?? LOL. Although, my family up North thinks I am nuts because I named them all after chicken dishes. Alfredo, Millicent, Cacchiatore, BBQ, General Tso, and Florentine.

I am trying to figure out where in my yard would be best for the coop for all the seasons. And really trying to figure out this chicken coop math!!  I just want to get it right the first time!! Books just don't seem to answer the stupid questions!!

OH! I GOT MY FIRST CALL DUCK EGG!!!!

Problem is I already have some chicken eggs in the bator and I know you have to incubate duck eggs differently! What to do?!? I can't waste any call duck eggs!wee.gif

I have chicken and duck eggs incubating together all the time.  There is a difference in the length of incubation but otherwise it's pretty much the same.  You stick them in there, keep the temp right and make sure they're turned.  If your incubator holds good humidity you shouldn't have any problems.  Call ducks sometimes have trouble hatching because they're so tiny.

Hmm ok...I had just read where some ppl incubate them at a higher humidity...but it's worth a try. I'd love to have a little duckling!

Cute chicks. As for sexing them, let me tell you a little trick this old timer has learned......the line coming from under the eye means girl and the line coming from the middle of the eye means boy.

This has worked for me each and every time.
