Hi everybody!  I'm Tabitha - my husband is from Beaufort, SC {we live in VA}... didn't know if anybody was close by?  All his family is still down there, his brother just added to his coop - they have 16 now.  We're working with 6 right now, eventually going to add more.

Loving my flock - 6 Rhode Island Reds, 2 White Leghorns, 2 Old English Game Bantams, 2 Silkies, 2 Dominiques & 1 Cochin <3<3

Emptynester is in Beaufort but I do not see her on here much any more. We are in Jasper Co./Hardeeville which is not far away.  Glad you could visit our thread!   What does his brother have in his coop?  wee.gif

While my DD is letting me get on the computer I wanted to post some pictures of our porch in the making--I talk about it so much I want you to see what I was talking about.  Wish DH would get this thing done as it has been in the unfinished stages for some time now.

If he would just put these skills to making more chicken pens.  Yes, he is doing most of this by himself.  The trusses he did have several friends and family members helping put those up.  This will be so nice in the summer!   Can't wait for DH to see that first Guinea on the railing!

IDK...I know when I had a single chick it peeped wanting company. I was lucky enough to have something just a few weeks older and not much bigger than a just hatched chick I dared to put in with it for company and all was ok (a 4 week old cockerel Polish)...no squashing or pecking...LOL I have a 14-15 week Maran right now inside in the "hospital" recovering from a wound and wasn't eating or drinking much so I brought in the young Polish cockerel again and he is encouraging her to eat and drink and keeping her calm. Anywhere else he would probably been culled already but he is such a calming and gentle fella despite his own injury (fell and broke his beak as a youngun' but he eats and drinks fine) All my Polish seem to have very nurturing spirits! I have some 2 week old EE's if you want a couple to put in to keep yours company...just say the word! That's as young as I have right now.

Both have been treated for coccidia. The hen, "Sarah" is doing great. She's such a character. "Abraham" was feeling really fiesty the past couple days but seems down today. I'm not sure what the outcome will be for him. I'm determined not to give up on d'Anvers though either way. I love the breed and hope to keep a couple colors of them. I am keeping my fingers crossed that he'll make a turn for the better.

Also wanted to share a picture of my little call duck's nest! She laid her first egg on friday and another yesterday! I had taken the first egg from her but when I saw she was actually making a nest I gave it back. Maybe she'll go broody all on her own! I've read that they sometimes aren't great broodies and will abandon the nest halfway through incubation...so I'm keeping a close eye on her. If she doesn't decide to sit on them, I guess they'll go in the inucbator!DSC_0149.JPG

Still rootin' for those D'Anvers! Congrats on the internet and on the Call Duck Eggs!!!!! thumbsup.gif
