Well I do believe you are well on your way to have just that..I was throughly impressed :) I felt very welcomed to your farm. Everyone that we've met through BYC has been super nice and welcoming us to the chicken community (so to speak).. After the chicken swap at TSC we both came home and said that we couldn't believe how nice and welcoming everyone was. Nobody made us feel dumb or out of place just because we're newcomers to raising chickens. I've never felt more welcomed than within this community. :)

I had a fun day.  LOL  I was sorting stored bee equipment in my shed.  Found a blue bird egg laying on the ground. No nest anywhere around.   Found 3 mice in the bee equipment.  2 ran...(I jumped big_smile.png) and 1 was injured when I moved the bee boxes.  I gave it to Miss Prissy my buff orp.  She was vicious with that thing.

I also found a big snake nicely coiled in the equipment.  ep.gif   I almost died.  The snake did.  He would have ate a lot of chicks after he finished up the mice.  My bee shed is too close to the chicken coop to take a chance.

I have zero tolerance for snakes anywhere near my chicken coop.  smack.gif

Truth be told-----I HATE snakes if they are within 50 feet of me. barnie.gif

Hopefully tomorrow will be a much less eventful day.  big_smile.png

I picked up 2 of the personal water misters at Home Depot garden department for my chickens.  They have been sold out for the last 2 summers every time I went in.  I looked early this year.

Hope to keep the fluffy silkies cool.

I sure hope today turns out better than it's starting. Woke up and started getting ready to go tear down an old building so we could use the materials for coops, but everybody who said they would help called this morning and cancelled (Ugg).. Hopefully the day gets better.

I lost 2 Silkie chicks yesterday. I am guessing one of the neighbor cats is coming over because I also found a nest with all the eggs eaten, shells left but insides gone so I have to catch and take more to the shelter.

The 2 Silkies were beautiful little splash babies, only 10 days old, out running around with mama hen. The dark blue is fine but the 2 splash are missing and this is the same area where I just lost 2 Mottled chicks, around 2 weeks old recently. DH said snake under the shed but the cats are forever going under there so I don't think so. None the less, sulfer is being put down under there this morning.

Could be Crows, I suppose but 2 chicks with a very protective mama hen makes me think a cat is coming up that does not know the rules of the farm. I don't tolerate that. Like Sam, it has gotta go! Hope you get your dogs today, Sam, so you can sleep better tonight.

Bantam Cochins are my love! Mille Fleur projects, buff barred projects and black/blue Mottled. Chickens, Guineas, Ducks, Peafowl and Meal Worms. Contact me for hatching eggs and a link to my website.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I do hope you find the culprit and put an end to it hurting your birds.

Oh no Amy...It would be soo nice if Jolie would learn she only has to guard YOUR farm so she could be loose...I am eagerly waiting for Beau to get just a little bigger so he can be loose all the time...right now he only does farming with me...Maybe they will be hiding somewhere! I promise I did not sneak up there with pockets!! We had a quiet night for the most part..at around 1:30 am the Roos all started up for some reason but I never found why?? That is very odd for them so I am thinking something was out there until I went out.

Amy I am so sorry for your loss.  Definitly needs to be found and removed from ever harming another bird.

Dee, I am so sorry your help bailed out.

Sam glad it was a quiet night mostly.
