Lil duckling didn't make it :( I have no idea when it pipped today since I was at work..so it might have been trying for a long time. Plus it didn't help that it decided to pip on the wrong end. Overall, it was a bad incubation since I had to stick it in my old incubator and the thermometer in there is really hard to read. Better luck next time I guess! My broody is still sitting on 10 call duck eggs and 4 chicken eggs so about 2 more weeks and I should have duckies and chickies. I'm going to take the call eggs from her and hatch them in my brinsea though. I don't trust the other chickens not to peck them to death.

Currently raising a small menagarie of animals, including a horse, 2 mini donkeys, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 ducks, and a bunch of chickens! Hoping to focus on call ducks and Belgium d'anvers!

Hi! I am in SC and just had my first hatch. It was disastrous. 7 eggs, 1 is alive but with severely curled toes, 1 I had to cull and one that pipped, started to zip and then died. I don't want to use the same eggs again. Any suggestions on where I could get eggs close to Laurens?

Homeschool mom to 4 boys and one baby girl, a dog, a roo blrw and his 4 girls(1 BO, 2 rir, and 1 EE), 2 quail and 8 bantam chickens(1 roo and 1 hen d'uccle, 1 hen sboe, bb red oe hen, and silkies(buff, white, lavender and black))

Welcome and sorry you had a bad hatch...but it is not always the eggs...slight variences in temp and humidity can cause problems also...I learned alot in my first few hatches!! I am in the area along with KrisH on here....Then there is Huckleberry Farm in Greenwood...What breeds are you wanting?

And curled toes can be helped...take a bandaid and place the pad part under the foot...spread the toes out correctly and stick the flaps over them to hold in place...may take a couple tries and an extra pair of hands but I have had a few and after a couple days there is a huge improvement!!
