Samantha, things sure get wild on the farm! Hope today is a better day. Poor DA, I am sure she will heal fine though.

Yancy, I know it was a horrible thing to find. Last Sunday you were talking about Lucy so much because she was a really special girl to you. I can't wait to see what her last baby looks like and I so pray it is a girl!

Well, I am off to pick up another 50 laying hens. All of a sudden I can't keep up with egg orders and so many folks keep asking for laying hens so I grabbed a chance when it was offered of someone selling out of their very young laying flock.

Everyone have a blessed day!

Bantam Cochins are my love! Mille Fleur projects, buff barred projects and black/blue Mottled. Chickens, Guineas, Ducks, Peafowl and Meal Worms. Contact me for hatching eggs and a link to my website.

Hi Everyone!

I was just wondering if any of you could offer some suggestions.  I've posted here, in FB, and on Craigslist, but no one wants my extra roos!  I really hate to process the two Frizzles - they are just too cute.  And the others aren't old enough to process, but I need to start moving chickens around and they are really taking up space.

So, if anyone knows of anyone who could use:

2 wheaten Marans, 12-14 wks old

2 Blk & Sil Sussex, 12-14 wks old

2 Cochin x Silky Frizzles, 4 mos old

Please let me know!

Here are some current pics:

Hubby calls it my menagerie.  I just call it home.  Could be a lot worse.  I used to list all my various birds, critters, and dogs here, but the list is changing too fast now!  Let's just say I have Ameraucanas, EE, Light Brahmas, bantam buff Cochins, turkeys, ducks, rabbits, and Nigerian Dwarf goats. Oh, and can't forget my three beautiful Labradors, Eli, Gage, and Conner.

I have several incubators in the dining room. I like them there. and don;t worry too much about the fluxuations even if it is a " roller coaster " ranging from 97 to 102 just keep the average right and you will be fine.

Have you looked for a local small animal auction? people will not bid on and buy chickens they do not want.

Okay, got those 50 new laying hens home and settled in.

The eggs are lovely and it is a good thing because I was sold out last night and have had several calls for many dz of eggs today. I am gathering as fast as I can and hope to catch up tomorrow since I try not to sell on Sundays. I do like one day a week to myself so I try not to answer the phone unless I know it is just a friend.

The leghorns are comical already. Coming up to me with their floppy combs and taking treats from me. I am happy with all the EEs and Ameraucanas and was surprised with how many SLW I came home with but I told Leah to pick them up and that she did! LOL The Doms are super and lay nice big brown eggs. I wish my hair was the color of the RIRs. They are gorgeous. And the BO are so fat! But already they are putting out the eggs so I am grateful. There are other breeds but all are gorgeous and healthy and some day maybe I will have a set up as nice as hers!

Okay, break time is over and I am back out to play in the pool with the ducks as I fill them up. We enjoy splashing each other! I think I get the worst of it though.

I don't blame you for buying some of her stock. I saw her list on the chicken swap page on Facebook and it was impressive. If we had not had a broody hen, that would have been the way to add to our own.
So, just how long does it take you to gather eggs each day? I have been wondering about that, and now with 50 more, I am sure you are going to be busy. I have promised Lou Ann a trip out to see you soon. That way she will see what the babies will look like when they grow up and how sweet they are. I am thinking/hoping the blue is a pullet, her feathers, and one or two of the blacks, are definite coming in faster. I love to watch them get those feathers. It is sooo cool. Pictures will be on Facebook later today and a few on here too.
Now, I need to go work in my own yard!

The original seven-3 Buff Orps, 2 SLW, and 1 Cuckoo Maran. Year two has found us with an additional 2 Splash Orps, 1 Black Orp, and hopefully, 1 Blue Orp and a Blue and a Black Copper Maran-still waiting to know for sure.I think our coop is full now!
