Anyway, Love the guinea story and boy can I relate!  If anyone needs guinea keets in this part of the world let me know--we have about 100 keets here of different ages and 60 more eggs in the incubator.   Will these girls ever stop laying?  We have been very blessed to have sold a great many of the guinea's eggs this summer.  I am so tired of packing and shipping eggs though!

Well, hopefully I get time to read back through the thread on what I have missed but right now I need to go deal with a deal gone wrong on eBay.  Something I purchased not sold!  What a pain to deal with people on there....   barnie.gif

Hi Heidi!

Been missing you!

Yes, it is certainly keet season. I all of a sudden have a population explosion of them, too but I am trying to keep back ones I need...er, want...er, better say need! I don;t think I have close to 100 but I am sort of scared to count! hide.gif

I have fallen in love with pintos and pieds so all those are staying in the pearls and royal purples. I may have to sell my wheaten Ameraucana roo to make cage space though. I want a breeding pen to cross in the lavs, coral blues and chocolates with pieds and pintos.

I just love ebay...NOT! I have had my share of problems with them recently, too. Received stuff that was advertised incorrectly. Geez, what a hassle!

Bantam Cochins are my love! Mille Fleur projects, buff barred projects and black/blue Mottled. Chickens, Guineas, Ducks, Peafowl and Meal Worms. Contact me for hatching eggs and a link to my website.

I think so

My BF emailed that story to me this morning - I think its a bunch of nonsense.  To prove it I told him once our hens are of laying age, I will use myself as a guinea pig to prove its BS.  I already food journal, so I will simply get a pre-experiment cholesterol test and then eat X number of eggs a day (thinking 3) for X number of days (not sure yet-a month?), then retest my cholesterol.  Before I lost my previous hens, I was eating about 3 eggs a day for breakfast and was the healthiest I had been in years (and was maintaining a 40lb weight loss).  When they got wiped out, I refused to eat store bought eggs and tried switching to protein shakes.  Before long I was back to not eating breakfast at all and it all went down hill from there.  Eggs were the lynch pin of the diet portion of my paleo lifestyle.  I'm way off course now (and up 20 lbs).  he.gif  Plus what's the point of eating egg whites?  All the vitamins and minerals are in the yolk!

Again, I wish there was a "like" button here and a "Yes!" button but for now, I will say... yesss.gif

I hope everyone is planning on going to the Chickenstock next month. Well, those who are in the upstate, anyhow. I am sure the ones in the lower part of the state would not want to make that far of a trip.

We have 5 weeks from today and I keep finding more and more that I can sell plus all that keeps hatching out. My pre-sales are going great and I am excited to go for the 3rd time. If you have not been, you need to plan on this one. It is fun and friendly.

I do not plan on bringing anything home but one never knows....... hide.gif

OK my chickens were free ranging and the neighborhood dog along with mine unfortunately got a hold of them.  Killed my favorite OF COURSE! I have two hurt ones. I don't know what to do for them. I put them in my brooder. They are panting and not moving. I gave them water. Should I leave the with heat on all night in the garage? Should I bring them inside? Is there anything I can really do for them?

Best thing is keep them warm--they are probably in shock and with shock they get cold.  Of course warm not hot.   I would also make sure there is not a lot of noises to startle them.  If injured put some neosporine(sp) on any wounds and just leave them alone for the night and say a little prayer!   Best medicine we have!    I am sorry and I hope tomorrow is a better day for you and them!

Just had a wonderful and exhausting day! My DD and her family came and spent the day helping with major fall coop cleaning, a few repairs, and some added nest boxes. We also relocated two small coops, and now everyone has new shavings, fresh DE sprinkles, spic-and-span feeders and waterers, and everyone enjoyed Samantha's grilled hamburgers afterwards! Thanks so much you guys! ...and all this just for my itty-bitty birthday! Best present I could have got! love.gif

There is a huge owl that lives in a tree next door. I have gone to the hardware store and bought a huge lock that I can put a padlock on, so no more leaving the coop door open. My oldest confessed that he didn't remember shutting it all the way after he did the nightly treat feed. Absolutely no evidence of a creature invasion other than the door left open. I am sad. He is extremely upset. Looks like I am going to be in the market for 3 more birds. I am thinking Easter Egger, Silver Laced Wyandotte, and possibly a lavender or blue orpington. Anyone have any leads on some pullets??? Willing to drive a couple hours from Columbia. sad.png

Oh, so sad!

I'll be hatching out a few Easter Eggers (wheaten Ameraucana over BLRW) in about 4 weeks, if you want some of those.

Hubby calls it my menagerie.  I just call it home.  Could be a lot worse.  I used to list all my various birds, critters, and dogs here, but the list is changing too fast now!  Let's just say I have Ameraucanas, EE, Light Brahmas, bantam buff Cochins, turkeys, ducks, rabbits, and Nigerian Dwarf goats. Oh, and can't forget my three beautiful Labradors, Eli, Gage, and Conner.

Yes those are yearly dues.  Our next meeting is next Saturday (August 25th) at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, Building A, from 11-1.  After this month, all of our meetings will be on the third Saturday of the month, same time, same place.
