OMG! Nice incubator!

I mine is a little giant still air incubator I got from Tractor Supply. I started out with 26 eggs and am down to 24 right now. Two of my eggs had craked.

I put them in 3/3 and candled over the weekend (early I know, but I couldn't wait). So far so good! I cracked the first one when I was checking the water at the bottom of the incubator. The other I found cracked while candeling. Before I tossed it, I opened it to see how far the development was. Nice webbing of vains on top of the yolk with a spot in the center of the vain web. I got so excited

cause I wasn't certain if all the eggs were fertil, but it seems they are.

This is my first hatch so if I get 50% hatched, I will be very pleased.

Hear your type incubator work's good. I bought eggs from someone who had one he said he went from 50% to almost 100% by working the water level each time. Make notes. Seem's to me humidity play's a big row in % hatching. You,ll be fine start with what instruction tell you. Let us know hows it's going. I have dark eggs so I don't candle tell 10 day's. and only one or two. I don't handle the eggs much and if I have to, I've learned to be sure to washed hands first, becaues even the oil's on your hands not good. Oh, what kind of eggs are they?

They are mixed. I have 1 Rhode Island red rooster, 6 Buff and 5 Black Orpington, 1 silver Ameraucana (see lays green eggs), 2 Dominique, 3 mixed or unknown. Didn't incubate any of the Ameraucana eggs this time. Maybe next hatch.

I live in Aiken COUNTY a lil tiny town called Wagener. It has a whopping pop of like 1000 people. No fast food no Wally World. It is so quite and just pure solitude. I ist on the front porch and all you hear is the roosters and guineas. Sometimes there is a car that rides by. The land is priced right. You can find an acre for 2500-3500. If you look far enough you can find great deals on land. I got just shy of 10 acres and a mobile home for 48,000. Another great small area is Salley SC and it is just next to Wagener. It hink Salley is evern smaller than Wagener. Both of these areas are convienently located about 30 min from the capitol of Columbia SC and about 2 1/2 from the beach in Charleston SC. and Myrtle Beach SC which is great for vacations.

I was wondering if there is going to be any swaps near Leesville, Sc anytime soon? I have several chickens to sell or trade and im looking for a few as well. Anyone know of any?

Sounds like heaven. We are "the outskirts of D.C. area. It is getting bigger and more like a big city. We need a change. Thanks for the info. GLAD to hear it's as nice as it looked.

Lost my old rooster. Have one RIR rooster got him 2 months ago he's around 1 1/2+ years old. He's the most easy going bird i ever had, someone had to have spent a lot of time with him. He is so nice to me but the hens he can be hard on them at times. He's not as dark red though I wish he would be. The eggs in the incubator is his first with my RIR hens, see how well they hatch. Have 3 plymonth white rocks hens, One buff orpington hen, 7 RIR hens. One silver polish rooster. Also one rose comb rooster and one white Jap hen have them together in a breed pen, there eggs our in incubator too, they are small this little hen 7 month old lay's a egg every day. Oh yes almost foregot have the 10, 4 week old RIR chicks going to sale.

Hi, This is my first post to this board! Or for that matter to BYC!!! I have lived in Aiken since '98 and can't think of a better place to live. As of yet I don't have any chickens, but am making plans...building a coop this weekend, if the weather cooperates

. I am interested in keeping about half dozen chickens of various breeds. I am leaning toward Wyandottes and at least one BLRW. Wondering if anyone close (2 hour radius) is selling pullets? My daughter wants a silkie, but is not set on kind yet. Probably won't get a rooster until/if we decide to breed. Let me know if anyone has any good contacts

Mary
