Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

If you have tried to get barnevelders at all you will find they are hard to find. Myself and other Barnevelder breeders see the need to improve egg color and keep the gene pool stong by helping each other and moving toward a bird that lays in good numbers with a dark egg. We would also like to see a defind double lace in these birds. Thanks to all who have had input of any kind lets work together to make this breed as great as we all know it can be. To all that my of seen the old thread dont worry that will not happen here all are welcome and any question will be considered a good one, and dont worry no chips on my shoulder.

here is the father of all of my stock there has been some question about the amount of red found on my roosters i do see that he was much darker than his sons that I selected to continue breeding with.

Could you please post a pic of this breed. Do they do well in cold winters, hot summers? I am deciding on breeds to get this spring,

They are wonderful little birds but they still need work as a breed and if you looking for a bird that lays in great numbers or has very dark eggs you should consider the welsummers or marans if you have really cold winters you should consider a bird with a rose or short comb they tend to handel the winter better wyandottes or even americanas. if you have hot summers birds with combs are better because the expel heat through their combs to keep cool no matter what breed you use make sure you provide them with a source of shade. good luck with your search.

I would love to see some pics of you birds and might even want the rooster you get rid of if he has good color I am in West TN. some of my birds seem to be on the small side.
