I just use co-op cheapest layer crumble feed or Cumberland mills chick feed if available, and sprinkle niacin on for duckletts. They don't need all fancy feed chickens do. I paid for other expensive fancy feeds for years, n most expensive Purina specialty duckling feeds killed some and dumor almost lot others, co-op n Cumberland mills adult layer crumbles adding niacin works lot better cheaper with more robust duckletts n adults. Course babies with adults run loose now too, feeding on whatever on property unfenced.

keeping assorted bantams and standard chickens..    pigeons: "white dove release" racing homers, flying flights, flying birmingham rollers, parlor rollers, parlor tumblers, "coop tumblers", Chinease owls.

How important is adding Niacin? I get 100 lb bags of grower mash from my local mill to feed everyone. I soak it overnight, every night before feeding the entire flock the next day (turkeys, chickens, ducks). I've never added anything extra and my 3 muscovies have been growing well and thriving. They free range all day, every day and seem to find most of what they want while foraging but winter is coming up. Will I need to add niacin to the food and will it be ok for the rear of the flock?

Does anyone know where I can get some Muscoveys? I can't find a hatchery that has them. I live in Mohave County, AZ.

I get lost in a dream of a small pick-your-own produce farm with a little petting zoo, pumpkin patch, and corn maze....

Too bad you're so far away. I know a lady here in PA that was giving young ones away because her ducks hatched out so many. Good luck, I hope you find some!

What shelters do you guys have for free range ducks in snow??? I need ideas fast. It snowed like four inches out of nowhere

Wishlist

I really want aWhite  Sebastopol that is young and nearby! Our male died two days after we bought him. I would really want a female though because the Sebbie was to be a companion for my duck, and now we think it's a drake.

A 3 sided structure would be nice/with roof  @CyndiD made one for her ducks for shelter.  Do you lock them up at night?  Sure hope so.

They are not as of now. We couldn't get rid of as many as we needed to this year. (Extra young males) so we left them out. I could lock 15 of the 37 up, but that wouldnt be fair. I've lost two that I've found dead. One was a mink (traps are set), other was an owl. Lost one to a hawk in the spring and an adult on a nest Maybe July-ish. Hhad some ducklings flat up disappear. I think they drowned. Locked up those babies until they feathered and didn't lose anymore.

The problem is not the night time at all. They float on the pond all night long or around the brushy edges. Everything I've lost so far this year was taken after sunrise and after the morning feeding at like 9:00.
My grandparents are too old to be locking them up at night and rounding them all up. And too emotional to lose any to a massacre if they arent Locke up before sunset. Right now I'm making the most of what I have. There is a gated fence that goes in the water a few feet surrounding the area that they spend the day on. It's going to be filled with Straw asap. They have a structure to hide under but i can go out and surround it from wind.

Ugh. I wish my parents would listen to me about penning them up but no one will!!
