My tiny chihuahua likes to eat everything off the ground so I have to watch him very carefully. About a month ago we went to the park & he happened to Hoover up a doobie. He's only about 2 1/2lbs so it didn't take much for him to get high. I didn't know what was wrong with him when we got home until he started to shake & fall down a lot. I rushed him to the vet & she actually ran a drug urine test on him & he tested positive for weed! It scared me so much,I can't imagine doing something like that to an animal on purpose even with just vodka.

Me either that was scary I am sure. Now you'll really have to keep an eye on him when you go to the park. even ciggaretts [sp] are deadly to small animals. and they will eat anything like you said.

I sold a pair yesterday but everything else I am going to keep for a while. I may keep an extra drake since this variety is so hard to come across. I am definitely keeping as many girls as possible.

I think this variety is lovely! Though I tell all my Muscovy I love them equally. big_smile.png

Bantam Cochins are my love! Mille Fleur projects, buff barred projects and black/blue Mottled. Chickens, Guineas, Ducks, Peafowl and Meal Worms. Contact me for hatching eggs and a link to my website.

Well here are my long awaited photos of our new little Muscovy's. I did wonder if they would ever arrive. In them building their nests i found out that we had rats as eggs were going missing. just didn´t realise how many. this is still an ongoing problem but they are taking the bait every night so fingers crossed we will soon be rat free.
First mum only got 4 babies. ( after started with 25 eggs) the first two hatched she trod on and squashed and four were non starters. The others stolenth.gif

second mum had 14, however this was not easily achieved. On checking her almost a week over due i saw something in the nest and went to check. It was a dead duckling, squashed and pushed into the side of the nest, then another. I pushed her up to see underneath and horror. barnie.gifNearly every egg was pipped or crushed. I grabbed the most affected and could see the babies still alive, so i rushed the worse 5 up to an incubator that had hen eggs in and placed another 6 under a broody hen ( on her first day haha)  and left the rest with mum. All night nothing, nest morning nothing till around 10.0 am. All the incubator ones hatched within 15 mins of each other and the hen ones a little later. It was well into the afternoon before the mums eggs hatched. I had to help them too as they seemed to be shrink wrapped. All but one egg hatched. On opening the final egg we found she had twins and that why it didnt hatch.. Fully formed but unable to come out. hmm.png
I placed the chicks back with her once they had fluffed in the incubator and from under a rather cross hen. I thought it was best mum raised them as ducks herself.
Not sure why mum crushed her eggs but i have heard they can sometimes be a little over help full in trying to help them hatch. maybe it was that. Our last nest is still to hatch, in about a weeks time. fingers crossed it will run smoothly but i am guessing not as she has made it in a tyre and there is nowhere for her legs to go when they start hatching so it might be a case of crushing them again, i will keep watch .
we also have one other muscoy that is building a nest now have 11 eggs so far.
Hope you enjoy the photos. Friends and animals 037.JPGFriends and animals 043.JPG

Sorry for all the problems you have had with the hatching, but those are some adorable ducklings.  Congrats!! do you think maybe too many eggs in the nest and thats why they got crushed?

Adorable pics! you sound like us, we did get A duckling but it is appearing like two died and the other 3 eggs are duds...  this hatching business is complicated.

There was lots of room around the other two nests, its only this third one i am a bit worried about. They do seem to like to make very large nests compared to the mallards. Its not easy trying to make sure they all arrive safely but it sure is fun when they are all running around in a little flock. I was watching them before they went to bed tonight, too cute for words. One would hop into the little tray of water i have put down and then one by one they were all hopping in and out. love.gif

I know where i am going to be spending most of my time this weekend !! clap.gif

I have ducklings right now too, well only one now sold the others but have more coming next week and early June. I would rather sit and watch the ducks and ducklings than anything else. I have a Embden gander who now thinks he is Father Goose and also helps with watching over the ducklings.  Let us know how it goes. Hope you have a great hatch!!

Sooooo can anyone tell me what color this little one is?   I have two like this and thought they were going to be chocolates BUT as they are beginning to feather out...... nope!  It's a light purple/blueish/brown.   Are these in fact Lilacs or Lavenders or Blue-Fawn?    The drakes are blue pied carrying a chocolate gene and what  I thought was a silver drake but now wonder if he isn't lavender/lilac.
