Thanks for the answer.I am using wheaton marans and wheaton ameraucanas.I am hoping for  beautiful wheaton chickens that will be attractive as well as lay beautiful dark green eggs.My girls are almost at laying age and my roo is just waiting patiently Still have a ways to go on this project but at least F1 is coming soon.

I have birds with dark brown & blue genes, I hope that I can get some good crosses to lay like that for me down the line!

I'm going to try Penedesenca roo over EE hens. (assuming I get a roo to hatch- if not I have 2 wellie roos)They should lay some really dark olive eggs. Wish I could speed things up a little!

I just hatched 3 chicks that I hope are olive eggers.  The father is a cuckoo Marans and the mothers are EE's. 

Two of the chicks have pea combs and one has a straight comb.

I don't need to use the straight comb chick in future breeding, right? 

Should I breed the pea combs (if they are pullets) back to the Marans rooster or should I hope that the two pea combed chicks are a pair and breed them together?  (Obviously it will be awhile, they are only 3 weeks old LOL)

WOHOO!!2 pips from my hopeful olive eggers..I was sure to get none my incubator fan stopped working twice. I have had 2 incubators replaced during this hatch...littel giant said must be a bad lot..Sure hope this one stays on already lost 1 batch of eggs..

I had some olive eggers hatch out 4 weeks ago. I have mostly pea combs with a few single combs. Am I  more likely to get olive eggs from the pea combs? I cant possibly keep them all until they start laying to see. Any thoughts anyone?

I did read some where you want the peacomb for olive eggs..

I say put a cuckoo marans roo over some EEs hens.

This should give you  at least 50% blue egg base on your pullets with lots of brown pigment to bring out the olive. (and some lovely cuckoo coloring too)

Oddly enough, I have those makings purely by accident. Earlier this year I bought 8 EE pullets, and 5 straight run Cuckoo Marans. Looks like all 8 EEs are indeed pullets, and I got 4 of the 5 marans are Roos. I was planning to get rid of the roos, But I might keep one (or two). From this cross, all green/blue eggs in the nests will be future olive eggers (well, the pullets anyway) and they will be nifty barred ones at that.

So, continuing this line, If I get this F1 flock of Barred Olive Egger (EEs), and then cross them on a (blue) splash EE roo, I'd get sex linked EE chicks; Blue Cuckoo cockerels, and Blue pullets, Right?

My olive eggs have been hatching.  So far I seem to get blue chicks with feathered legs or chicks that look identical to BCMs.
