Is the nest area inside the center section?
How do you clean it out?

Cool! I used to work at Lowe's and they throw these spools in the trash unless customers ask for them. I've got to ask them to save me some!

You may be able to get some from your local Lowe's or maybe even Home Depot or another hardware store.

Do you think they would fly through if you cut a hole in the top of the bottom spool and in the bottom of the top spool?

added:  Would they work for doves too?

I love this idea. I just checked Kijiji and these spools go for $40--100 here. I'll have to call electric companies directly to see if they might be available for free.

How about a patio umbrella sticking down from the top through the center. It would make a good roof and shade.

Hot dog! I got something to build!!

Wow! This thread has been resurrected. smile.png I recently saw it "pinned" on Pinterest as well.

We used ours for pigeons and OEGBs when we raised them and they had space to walk around inside the pen. However, we did let them out to scratch around at least once a week. The pigeons would fly out of the door, but were having trouble getting back in since they need to perch and then walk inside. So, we drilled a small hole under the door so when the door folds down, a nail is placed under it to create a landing pad.

GFF, I found this on Pintrest and had to read the thread. :-)
