Mothergoose,
I was thinking of bringing a few of my silkies up.. we have a pick-up, no trailer, hate to sound dumb.. but what would that cost to get in? is it still $2 each person, plus $10 or what?? OR.. If We walk in with the bird in cage on wheel, what is the fees to get in?

Thanks for the answers.. Fran

Hi Fran, When we went and sold birds and bunnies there last year and we only had to pay $10 and that was for my hubby, son and I to sell there. You will definitely want to get there before 5 (maybe about 4:30 at least) to get a place to park and sell your birds! I don't know how busy this first sale of the year will be but it fills up fast usually! To be quite honest, many birds get sold before the gates open to buyers, just from sellers buying from other sellers. I don't think we had to each pay $2 to get in but it may just depend on how nice the person at the gate is.

There have been times when we have went there that we have brought flashlights to see what is there to buy since it was so early that the sun wasn't even up yet!

Since I am going up there to buy some silkies.... can I ask what colors you are taking, how much you will be asking and if you have any pictures?

Why of course you may ask.. I have
1 white roo , 1 year
1 red roo, 1 year
1 white roo & 2 black hens been together for a year, they are family
hmm.png

1 black roo cockerel, just started to crow, 21 weeks
1 black roo x all silkie except has a single comb, cool looking, just started to crow, 21 weeks
4 copper partridge ?? pullets 21 weeks

I have decided, while I love them.. I do not need them.. I know that sounds harsh.. but I cannot afford fun right now.. we have been eating their eggs bit I cannot sell them. Originally my plans were to make mouth sized pickled eggs.. I just can't find the time.
I am going to stick with the full size guys..

Maybe a barter is in order.. I am game.. whada ya got?

Hmmm, wish I could think of something to barter with.... I downsized so much last year that all we have now are MiniRex rabbits, run-of-the-mill barnyard chickens, my silkies and I just put 1 doz Bearded Mille Fleur Duccle eggs in the incubator too. I sell a lot of antiques and stuff on Ebay, any collections you want to add to?

I do like your trio! If you still have them when the Kankakee sale rolls around maybe I can buy/barter them off you then.

I will be there...early as usual. Probably bring a few of this years wethers...not sure yet...but I'm always on the look out for just the right bird....unfortunately most of those are sold before the sun comes up...and I hate to buy something that I can't see. Busy weekend that week...The Hoosier horse fair is friday- sunday...
See everyone there.....

Steph, you are right to like the trio.. they are the nicest birds I have.. they love each other, just feed them and pet on occasion.. they want for nothing, they are just happy with each other, and it shows!

We will be in a blue ford explorer sport-trac, we know where we "want" to park, not sure where we will end up.

we will try to be up there by 4, and if you really are sure you want them.. lets talk..

I would rather see them in a good home.. producing for a reason (other than food) not that I don't eat my chickens.. just these guys are kind of friends.. but here they are only eye candy and they deserve more.

Relics, I am going to have to go see what you have...

I don't need any wethers.. but what else you got, LOL

Mothergoose.. what are you bringing this year? Do you have any of your larger livestock still?

Wethers.... I could use a couple of extra lovable ones for 4-H. Let me know if you are bringing any.

Jolly-Rancher,
We will have a wide variety of stuff at the April swap. Right now I know we will have a few laying hens, some bantam & standard roosters, pekin drakes, guinea cocks, muscovies, guinea pigs, chinchillas, a few rabbits, possibly a few call duck drakes, some bantam cochins, a nice little ram lamb, a boar buck, and in babies..welsummer chicks, pekin & runner ducklings. I am sure there will be some other critters too.
See you in 2 weeks!
