Did you incubate them yourself? And if so using what method I have a heck of a time trying to hatch them. Out of 40+eggs only 1 made it (luckily they were from my calls when I had them so I did not pay)
I helped mine hatch too, but they never seemed to absorb the yolk all the way and died. They would be doing fine on the bottom laying there moving around and then next time i checked they were dead.
if you help them hatch just leave the bottom of the shell on for them to kick off when they are ready. Make sure the humidity is high enough so they don't dry to the shell.
Ya I got advice from Sundown...it seems to work ok...this morning I got 2/3 good looking one's I put in the hatcher...it always seems though that there are some quitters in the last few days, but any that pip correctly so far I have helped out ok. She should write a full tutorial because without her help only one would have hatched out of 2 batches...
That is what I did I left the bottom shell on and had the humidity at about 80. I don't know what I did wrong. Soon as a I get an empty bator I'd like to try again. I also ordered some ducklings, you can never have too many calls!!
I'm just decided on making a Styrofoam bator to hatch Call eggs. Which plan did you use, and how well does it work? What is your hatchability rate with it? I'm so glad you mentioned that you have a Styrofoam one because I've been wondering how good it works. Who better to ask than someone experienced in hatching calls!
What do you mean "helping them" with hatching? Do you mean help remove shell as they hatch? I never understood why this was such a "bad thing" to do other than watching out for the yolk. Ahh there is so much to know!
