I have 5 cockerels in one coop and one cockerel with 2 hens in another. I want to put them all together. Will the one cockerel currently on own fight the others when mixed together?

If you put your cockrels and your hens/pullets all together, you are probably asking for trouble. Those boys are going to fight like crazy. Sadly most of the time it is the hens that end up getting hurt through aggressive breeding and over breeding. Why do you have to put them all together. You should have 1 roo for every 10 hens.

Not only will you have fighting, bloody bad fighting, you will have 2 hens over bred to the point you will want to put them down to get them out of their misery.

More than 1 rooster in with 2 hens is a near a death sentence for those to girls as good as culling them on your own.

Do not add more roosters to that pen with the hens. That is just cruel.

If you want to keep the other 5 roosters keep them in a bachelors pen or build them each their own pen.

You betcha! Those are his hens and he's not going to take lightly to other roos moving into his territory.
On top of that, the poor hens would get the short end of the stick as the boys all try to mate them.
Way too many roos for just two hens.

Thanks for replies. I will keep them separate, it would just have been easy to have all 8 birds togerther-6 cockerels & 2 hens. I know i dont need all the cockerels, what do people do with all their excess 'boys'...i cant kill them! Can i post them to you in America?

Ralphs...where are you and what type of roos do you have? Shipping them overseas would be very stressful for them and it likely wouldn't be worth the shipping/customs charges. Surely someone near you has a farm and would take them.

We have 13 hens and two roos and I'm hoping the neighbor will take a roo when they get their coop done. They don't fight but they are driving the hens insane. They have always been in the same pen though. They're brothers - Bruce and Punt the three yard kick bird with attitude. Can you guess who the neighbor will get?

I would post to get rid of the extra boys in your area! Maybe trade for a couple of girls!

not sure it always feasible to get rid of your roos. If on average you hatch out 50% boys then what do you do with that half of the hatch? Roosters are only good for protection and fertilization. You only need one for every 10 hens. I use the extra roos for food. That way you don't waste them or pawn them off on someone else. Good luck finding someone who wants a rooster. (especially one that isn't purebred)

ETA: I had 16 roosters and 18 hens together from chicks. When I killed my extra roosters I think all of my hens breathed a sigh of relief. The poor dears where getting abused big time. It was my first time raising chickies. They were great tasting!!!
