cock fight!!

I live in Beverley England. One more question-i let all the chickens out each day to roam in my field so the 2 hens come into contact with all the cockerels, but at mo the 2 hens stick with the cockerel they live with who is older and bigger. Will the cockerels start to fight in the open field when all same size & will hens suffer even in the open?

I have 2 roosters they started fighting I separated them. Will the hens that were his end up liking the rooster that is with them now. They stay so separate in the coop.

At what age do you need to get rid of the other roosters? i think i have 3-4 out of 9.

I butchered a few of mine when they were about 5 months (I think) .. big enough to eat and they were chasing the girls to the point that they didn;t want to leave the roosts. That's when I knew it was time

If you want to keep all you roos in one pen together you can. Here is the trick. I'm not sure why it works, but if you get an adult male turkey and put it in the pen with the roos. nobody fights. I'm not sure why I guess they feel dominated by the bigger bird?

My grandmother taught me this one and I swear it really works. Crazy huh?

Just thought I would add this interesting info.

i'd either reserve a spot in the freezer for the extra roos, or try to find someone who will buy or trade them for hens. Suprisingly, it does happen. i feel that if you put them all togather you might end up with a nasty mess, and few chickens.

I never heard of the turkey trick before....that might be something to look into. A neat idea.

My hens hated Thor when he was not the alpha rooster. They gave the poor guy such a bad time.
Now that's Thor is the alpha and the hens have no choice, they like him just fine. If you can't be with the one you love....

Yes they will.

And the one cockerel who stays with the hens will likely fight to the death to defend his hens, so you may find yourself having a few dead cokerels if this scenario is allowed to continue to play out.

I have flocks in seperate runs and allow 1 flock to free range at a time, never allowing them out together.
