Post your FIRST EGG pics! - Page 359

My first egg from an adopted hen.  We got her at night, and was surprised the next day when we saw this.  After the stress of moving, she only stopped laying for one day.  Just waiting on my chicks to get old enough.  I'll be more egg-sited about those because I raised the chicks.  Plus they might be funny looking.  I also have a chick that's going to lay green/blue eggs.  I can't wait to see those.

WAHOO! WE GOT OUR FIRST EGG!! I can’t even begin to explain how excited we all were to see the good news! I was beginning to think Ruby (RIR), Scarlett (RIR) & Pickle (GL Wyandotte), were all duds or worse, Roosters! This is because our 3 girls are approximately 29 weeks old! Seriously, talk about keeping us is complete suspense!  At this time only Ruby is laying eggs, 1 each day for a total of 9. It is interesting how the other 2 girls always go into the coop and watch Ruby when she is going to lay!

After reading everyone else’s “why isn’t my hen laying eggs?” posts, I knew I had to wait patiently, but these girls are now 29 WEEKS OLD!!!!  We got them at approx 14-15 weeks old.  They’ve been in their permanent coop/run for 2 months, and we are giving them all the proper diet and supplements.

I guess it is still going to be a suspenseful waiting game until all 3 of our girls are laying!

Ruby’s First!

Thanks Ruby!

Ruby’s mighty-big egg!

"This is Heaven."

"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."

"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street? No. That's hell."

"Doesn't it make you mad that they use your name like that?"

"No, they're doing us a favor. They screen out unsuitable candidates -- the folks who would leave their pet behind."

It looks like your egg got stepped on. Is this the hen's first, or one of her first, eggs? If so, the shells may not be quite strong enough yet (make sure you are feeding them layer feed and supplementing with crushed oyster shell to enhance their calcium levels. This will make the eggshells stronger). If your nest is an open-type nest, the egg could have been stepped on by one of the other pullets. Sorry, I bet that was pretty disappointing!! Even the hen herself may have stepped on it accidentally.
